WHAT'S THE MOST DARING THING YOU'VE EVER DONE ?
This past Saturday, Rick and I celebrated the 18th anniversary of our very first date. Although, to be fair, the term"first date" doesn't exactly apply, since our meeting was purely by chance... one morning at a bed and breakfast in Southern California. We spent the day walking around Beverly Hills, strolling along Santa Monica's 3rd St. Promenade and enjoying drinks in Marina del Rey.
Why am I telling you this, you ask? (No, I'm not completely narcissistic)
What sparked this little reminiscence is yet another "fun question" that I came across the other day:
"WHAT'S THE MOST DARING THING YOU'VE EVER DONE?"
Our anniversary got me to thinking about the reason I ended up in California in the first place. I blame it on a great amount of desperation, but for the sake of this post, let's call it daring. --- In my early 20's, unhappy with the life I'd created, I decided to quit my secure professional job, pack my belongings and enough money to last a month into my little Subaru and drive west. I had no idea where the road would lead (Colorado was on my short list) and I must admit, I was extremely nervous, but, to make a long story short, two weeks later I pulled into LA carting two South African guys I'd met in Vegas and within a few weeks, and down to my last hundred dollars, I'd met my future husband, found a well-paying job, was offered a gig to crew on an 85' yacht and had signed up to house-sit at a 5 million dollar home in Laguna Beach right on the ocean.
Not sure if that sounds daring to you, but I happen to be a rather conservative girl and quitting a guaranteed safe job to drive west on my own into the unknown took a heck of a lot of courage (the nervous eye- twitch I developed proves it!).
And so I ask you ... "What's the most daring thing you've ever done?"

Lisa, You seem to have some interesting questions.
The most daring thing I ever did: I was a volunteer fire fighter for years. One night, a mansion caught on fire. We had to go in and save as much as we could. We went thru every room pulling priceless art off the walls. I handed a picture to one of my team. His eyes went wide, it was a Picasso
Any way, when the sun came up the next morning, all of the floors that we had crawled across were now burned thru. I can remember looking in and thinking that, "I had been on those floors". Makes you realize that fire does not care if you are rich or poor. They all burn the same.

Time to head to the beach & watch the sunrise

Wow . . . never knew firefighters are told to risk their lives for something not alive.johnath2o wrote:Lisa, You seem to have some interesting questions.

That ain't right, I wouldn't want a fire fighter to risk his/her life for my "Stuff".ConchRepublican wrote:Wow . . . never knew firefighters are told to risk their lives for something not alive.johnath2o wrote:Lisa, You seem to have some interesting questions.

My animals (if they can do it without serious risk) yes but my "Stuff" can be replaced.

On purpose?
Jump off a 40-foot cliff in Jamaica into the water.
That and get married and have kids...whom I love greatly!
By accident?
Have another guy drive into head-on me at 50mph while I was doing 50mph. He was going the wrong way on a highway. Not my best day, nor his. He passed away immediately.

Exactly!!!! If someone's rolling with a Picasso on their walls and don't have it detailed for insurance, well, that's just stupid. I'll save your cat or dog as well as kids. Stuff? You go get it.pair8head wrote:That ain't right, I wouldn't want a fire fighter to risk his/her life for my "Stuff".ConchRepublican wrote:Wow . . . never knew firefighters are told to risk their lives for something not alive.johnath2o wrote:Lisa, You seem to have some interesting questions.

that happened here. I wondered why...pbans wrote:the other day, when I put my dishes away, I didn't put them in color order.
I expected frogs to fall from the sky, famine, blood in the river.....but nothing happened. I was kind of disappointed.

Mine is: got married after a two month courtship, moved to a town 5 hours away from everybody I knew and loved. Turned out ok. Been married for over 30 years.
I also jumped off a 40-foot cliff at Kentucky Lake. Went down in the water way further than I expected to.
