Talk about a beatdown of an opponent.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:A senior officer in the United States Military has most certainly run plenty.John Glenn wrote:t;]"I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by antiaircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the Space Program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my Life on the line. It was not a nine to five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me .... as I went the other day... to a Veterans Hospital and look those men - with their mangled bodies - in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!
You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. You stand there, and you think about this Nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job?
I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum, you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held a REAL job. And they required a dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a dedication to duty - that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible.
Beyond that, 22 years in the Senate is a pretty big qualifier.....

There's a lot of controversy in Jack Welch's history......... and oh, he would be a 'change'..

And I don't think Colin Powell wants anything to do with Washington politics.

And then there's this too:
Former state Rep. Ray Metcalfe, a Democrat who was an early whistleblower in an FBI investigation that unearthed waves of corruption in Alaska politics, said his party will have a tough time finding ways to criticize Palin.
She's got some commendable fetes... and seems affable enough.
Her selection is just a little to nuanced, her résumé far too light... the pick is too gimicky
The DNC SNUBBED Biden during the primaries. They proved beyond a shadow of doubt they have NO INTENTION of reaching across the aisle and pick a candidate that D's and R's couuld both endorse. HOw about a Biden/Richardson ticket?
Do you realize the size of the balls this lady must have to take on Alaska Oil and Natural Gas? And then throw out and prossicute the bastards?
For me, that's some refreshing change

I wonder how much campaigning George will do for John? Does John even want George to 'help' him out on the campaign trail?
It could be seen as a liability to have George around when John is trying to get elected.
If Al thought he should avoid association with Bill during the 2000 election race (probably a mistake) over a little lie about oral sex in the Oval Office, then it probably makes sense that John should avoid association with George, what with the scope of the self-inflicted quagmire (hundreds of thousand of Iraqi civilians dead/ tens of thousands of U.S. troops killed or wounded) George's lies have brought us to in our pointless, but also criminal, invasion of Iraq. It would be rude I suppose to even mention Osama bin Laden at this late date. Where IS he anyway?
My advice to John would be simple - try to pretend you're not even part of the same political party as George and his many friends (ie the Republican party). But unfortunately politics isn't simple.
That brings us to John's VP choice. I think it was forced on him by George's many friends (ie the Republican party) because they realize he is going to need the evangelicals to show up in large numbers and vote for him if he is to have any hope of beating Barack.
To this point in time, the evangelicals have shown no indication that they'd vote for John because he has been trying hard to pretend he isn't even part of the same political party as George and his many friends (ie the Republican party).
Sarah, they hope, will mobilize that evangelical base that sees John as being not sufficiently conservative for them.
John is in a tough spot. He has to run away from George and his many friends (ie the Republican party) to have any chance at getting elected but he has to make it 'look' like he isn't running away from George and his many friends (ie the Republican party) and so we have Sarah.
John and Sarah may very well end up running a hobbled 'three legged race' against Barack's and Joe's coordinated sprint.
Oh well. Good luck John! Good luck Sarah! Run fast!
ps I tried very hard to avoid abusing the candidates with petty name calling, regardless of race, creed or political affiliation. I know that, contrary to the old saw, names CAN hurt as much as sticks and stones.

OK that graphic is funny (if completely wrong). But I think, in time, you're going to come to love Obama as the rest of us do. Maybe even more than you loved Reagan.Wino you know wrote:OH, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!rumdrinks wrote:I guess I missed that one, not exactly sure what "shrub" is in reference to, but it sounds like it is more of a comical term than a viscous personal attack.
