I think if Tim were still here there'd be no question that she'd be on Meet the Press...because if she refused, Tim the bulldog would have crucified her. That alone could have determined the outcome of the election. Tim was "Everyman"...and people listened.

Exactly what I wanted to say ... thanks for putting it into words. Russert would have gotten to the heart of things, but he would have been a gentleman while doing it. No one could cry 'foul' when Russert was here. Besides always being prepared, he was fair.

No other interviews are scheduled. It will be the first TV interview for Palin since she was named 10 days ago as running mate to John McCain.

Palin had planned to return to Alaska this weekend but is so popular on the stump that she is going to stay out a few more days before returning home. One of her sons deploys to Iraq on Thursday.

Palin plans to sit down with Gibson later this week in Alaska, the source said.

The McCain campaign kept her off Sunday shows this weekend and plans to be sparing with high-risk network encounters, which they contend are unimportant to voters despite the media’s fixation on them.

But McCain officials could see her reticence was feeding the narrative of her being unprepared for the job.

Sarah Palin, a woman who was virtually unknown to the nation just a week earlier. The day before, thousands screamed "Sa-rah! Sa-rah! Sa-rah!" at an amphitheater outside Detroit.

"Real change with a real woman," read one sign at a Wisconsin rally. "Hurricane Sarah leaves liberals spinning," cried another.

In the short time since McCain spirited the 44-year-old first-term governor out of Alaska and onto a national stage as his running mate, Palin has become an instant celebrity. Not good for moms at all. I think I read she was back at work 3 days after the birth of her baby. 3 days . Ridiciulous. I think I can have about zero respect for this woman.

You know, we're self-employed. I had a baby on a Sunday afternoon at 5:13p, went home on Tuesday and went back into the office on Wednesday. I was not neglecting my child (he came along with me) and I was not back to a full schedule but the reality is, when you're self-employed, you do what you have to do. There were times that I breast-fed him at 11p, put him to sleep then I stayed up and worked until 330a when he would again awake to be fed before I could go to bed. You do what you have to do sometimes when you there is no paid maternity leave. None of us knows her specific situation at that time but I certainly have an idea of what she must have been going through

The media needs to stop whining and start working or get out of the business.

I had the opportunity to observe the media yesterday that was covering the McCain-Palin appearance in Colorado Springs. What a bunch of spoiled rotten crybabies. I'll bet their mothers don't know how they behave.

The media is crying now to cover their asses because they didn't see the Palin announcement coming. They didn't see it because they were sitting around in air-conditioned tents, eating catered food and waiting for the next utterance of the messiah.

In the absence of an official "short list" provided by the party or the campaign, the media fabricated a list based on their best guess. None of them was smart enough to include Governor Sarah Palin's name on that list.

While they recirculated rumors about Secret Service protection for Romney's family and speculated about Governor Pawlenty's sudden return to Minnesota from Denver, the real nominee boarded a plane and flew to the site of the announcement. The media missed the story.

I hate to see Tim Russert's name drug into the matter because I think he would be embarrassed by it. Tim probably would have been the first to invite Sarah Palin to appear on his show and he would've done it before the nomination. He did his homework and he did it more thoroughly than anyone else in the business.

Elrod, I don't think anyone here made any disparaging remarks against Tim in regards to being the media or press. In fact I'd say we were lamenting the fact that he wasn't here to help all of us, regardless of "sides", gain some insight into Gov. Palin. He was honest and fair, and his opinions garnered the utmost respect. I think a lot of the media crap wouldn't be an issue if Timmy were still with us. That's certainly why *I* brought his name up.

I'm sure Tim would have invited Gov. Palin to be on his show. That doesn't mean she would have accepted...at least not until she felt comfortable with the level of questioning he'd raise with her. And if that were the case, Tim would have made his opinion about it very clear.
