This Saturday or Sunday the Washington Post, in ana article about Palin, said that the Trig is Norse for Brave Victory. So I guess anyone who likes names with that sort of meaning would like Trig.

and get down to the heart of what defines the candidates.
The debates are going to be interesting, especially since John McCain seems to have a hard time in front of groups. Obama Vs. McCain in a debate could be a little in favor of Obama.

If all this stuff was decided on the internet and paper, there would really be no need for debates or an election

When I heard Bristol's name and then I heard Sarah Palin was a sportscaster once upon a time. I thought maybe she wanted to work for ESPN....

Palin makes first gaffe...

Jake Trapper of ABC explains:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch ... g-com.html

Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo., Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said, "The fact is that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers. The McCain-Palin administration will make them smaller and smarter and more effective for homeowners who need help."

"Too expensive to the taxpayers?"

They're private entities.

Though they're private entities ultimately backed up by the taxpayers.

But the only way Fannie and Freddie are "too expensive to the taxpayers" is if you're talking about the bailout announced over the weekend.

Is that what she meant?

So, does "too expensive" mean that Palin opposes the bailout?

Or did she misstate how these entities function?

I asked the McCain-Palin campaign for an explanation.

Its response was to send an e-mail from domestic policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin:

“John McCain supports the steps needed to keep the financial troubles at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from further squeezing American families, and endorses the idea that management and shareholders should not benefit from government backing," Holz-Eakin said. "While details are not yet available, the actions taken today are consistent with those objectives. Fannie and Freddie have been the poster children for a lack of transparency and accountability, and remind us of the needed reforms to financial markets in general. We need to create jobs and get the economy going — and get way from the practice of sticking Main Street Americans with these bills. If elected, John McCain will continue his crusade for the right reform of the institutions. Sen. McCain will get real regulation that limits their ability to borrow, shrinks their size until they are no longer a threat to our economy, and privatizes and eliminates their links to the government.”

Right.

That doesn't really answer my question.

A McCain aide e-mails on background that Fannie and Freddie "have $5 trillion in exposure. They either own or insure this much in loans, as such, they are too big a part of the economy to be allowed to fail. Their failure would pose a systemic risk to the economy, which is why treasury is stepping in, and has committed billions in taxpayers to keep them afloat. They are too big, and now, too expensive."

So -- according to this aide, speaking on background -- Palin meant they are CURRENTLY too expensive, though presumably she supports the Bush administration's bailout.

What do you think? You buy that explanation?

The media on Palin and the bridge to no where

I want to preface my comments by stating that this is a question about the media, not about VP candidate Palin and that I think that people should be allowed to change their mind as more information is presented to them.

Why when certain Senators who have run for national office changed their opinion on the war in Irag were they branded flip-floppers yet when Governor Palin, in her own words, changed her position on the bridge to no where it is ok because she is taking on wasteful spending?

The media is fickle.

The question was too early.

I don't think they intended for her to take questions yet, she has not been adequately prepared.

On a second note, why were the CEOs of these organizations given lucrative severance packages on the way out the door, upwards of $15 million? We are going to spend billions bailing these organizations out from the mistakes they made, this is not right.

The media is so fickle it has ignored many of Obamas blemishes. They also haven't said much about McCains flipping and flopping to appeal to the right. The media reports to sell headlines, they really don't care about the issues. Want a nice bash-fest on the rep candidates, watch Oberman on MSNBC, its fun to watch and quite biased. Want to see Obama get trashed watch Hannity on Fauxnews. Its annoying to watch and biased. Want something fair and balanced? Dream on. It doesn't exist. I like to watch both extremes and then evaluate the degree of bias in each.

If you want a real kick listen to Michalenglo Seniorally (bad spell) on Sirius OutQ in the afternoon. Or Mark Thompson on Sirius 146. I like Mark a lot.

Oberman makes me laugh, he does politics just like he called sports. His rants are awesome, even when over the edge.

However, I think both of you are over doing it. Just watch Daily and Cobert, what else could you need to get your news?

Thompson is left his show is from the black perspective. He is very knowledgeable on black history and what really happened - well from his perspective which is probably a little closer to reality if you discount his crazy conspiracy theory things every once and a while.

Michelangelo Signorile is very left. 146 is the GLBT station. Google it if you don't know what that is. He is even further over on the conspiracy theory thing but I really like listening to him. He is quite intelligent and does more than name calling and sound effects like most of the left wing talk hosts.
