My poor husband had shingles on his face -it was & still is awful. Even thought the rash has pretty much left (since July 4th weekend) the pain is just too much. Has anyone else had to deal with this if so any suggestions
BTW he sees a neurologist & the meds he has him on does not help much at all
Thanks for any help!!

It's a damn shame the doctors don't give you GOOD meds for stuff like that.
Vicodin or lortabs

Yeah -they weren't much help with the pain part which we're told can last for a very, very long time!!
Unfortuantely he also developed paralysis which then made his disease Ramsay Hall which is shingles with the paralysis -which still hasn't completely gone away either -Shingles, especially on the face really SU*KS!!

Mine weren't that bad. Mild case around the waistband area.
I just waited them out after taking the meds (antibiotics) from the doctor.

I'm so sorry he has shingles. I haven't had them (yet) but I hear when they're on the face and/or head, they are excrutiatingly painful.
GAH. They HAVE to have something for that pain.

Hope he finds some relief.
I am considering getting the vaccine. My doctor says they are generally not recommended until age 65. My allergist thinks it wouldn't be a bad idea but I know that the reports aren't entirely positive.
Anyone had the shot, or made the decision not to?

The shot is recommended for age 60 & up -wouldn't you know he just turned 60 this past March -My mom ran out & got the shot too many of her friends got shingles -lucky for them on the trunk of their bodies so not as painful.
All I have to do is look at his eyes & I can see the pain

My Mom had a terrible case of shingles about 6 yr's ago. She still has occasional pain.
Anyway, she went to a pain specialist at the time and he put her on neurontin & some other things for awhile. The whole experience has been horrible.
It's a shame they don't allow the shot before 60.

The neurologist has him on Lyrica which is similar to Neurontin and he just upped the dosage & still no help -he goes back tomorrow to see him-I just feel so bad that there is nothing I can do to help!

No real help....but my sympathies.....
My hubby had a horrible case a few years back, it was miserable for all of us. He did end up getting some lidocaine patches that helped....a little.
It's a long process, unfortunatley...

Hugs to your hubby.

I've never had shingles...but that was one reason why I decided not to get the chickenpox vaccine, because I have been told it doesn't prevent shingles.
I have no clue about this stuff....but if you're desperate it may be worth a shot.

I have ordered other things from this company that have done what they've said they should do....but it wasn't for anything as painful as shingles. But it might be worth trying...or maybe someone else here has tried it. Good luck, I sure hope he feels better soon.

Thanks I just might try it -it says it helps with the pain. See this is why you throw something up on BN with all the people out there someone will come up with something!

If you do get it you'll have to let us know if it worked. I read their catalog from cover to cover because they always have such interesting things..and hard to find stuff. Ya gotta love a place that carries 3 of my favorite shampoos from when I was a kid...Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific, Body on Tap and Lemon Up.

vicodin was what helped me deal with it....
