OK I am the only Kid near home..
I just got the 'net back up for Mom and Dad..
I have showed them a few times
how to pick up email and surf..
then two-three weeks later I go out
and show them how to again..
it is obvious.. (to me) that I
am just not the person for the
job.. maybe my Teaching skills are not too good..
I see two options
A one of the kids from church go out a couple of nights
a week for three or four weeks..
(my personal belief is if they will DO it a few times it will stick)
B get a pro to go in for like 4 hours.. but I think that is the
problem, show and go..
any ideas??

I'm not implying that your Parental Units are dummies, of course, but maybe some sort of self-paced instructions like this might be the ticket?

Maybe put together a Quick Reference type of thing. The basics all on one sheet and laminate it....

Do you have a Senior Center or Library nearby that might offer basic Internet classes for free (or nearly free)?

Computer Training

I worked as a computer trainer at one point in my career and now teach computer science at a local college. I would suggest the kid from church. Repetition is the key. A pro is not going to do that much more, other than have the aforementioned materials already prepared, than the kid. A one page set of notes is probably what is needed. I know that some of the people that work for me have had luck with Video Professor for their families -
http://www.videoprofessor.com/ . If you PM me your email address I will be happy to share materials that I have developed over the years for trainings and bagged lunches. Also there is a program that you can use to get on their computer, if you can get them to get through a couple of steps, called team viewer -
http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx. I have used this with my parents, but I admit both of them used computers at the end of their careers so they have some experience.
Hope that helps.

Kinda takes you back to when you were in school and she used to say things like "I know you
CAN learn your math, cuz you remember all those sports statistics!"

Well I am waaay more on the technical side of the spectrum...but it never fails when you go to someone's home they are going to ask you a question or how to do something...so thats fine...I could never actually have an organized class for teaching...just not my style...Flight instructing different..PC learning evil...But I digress
What I have people do is write down the steps in a way that they understand them...as I show them what to do I also explain and they see visually. Next is the do step..have them do it, and write down what they need to know so they can follow their own directions..not someone elses. make sure they can do it a couple times and move on. They now have a step by step list of what to do, that they wrote down. It seems to work for most people i've been with, its worth a shot.

Could you have your other siblings email them pictures? That would give them an incentive to learn.
