Tarot card readings

Post by popcornjack »

So, I just had a quick tarot card reading here at work. One big disclaimer obviously is that I see the guy once a week, though I have never had him read my tarot and don't usually discuss my personal life with him. That being said, the reading was pretty amazing. Talking, in generalities, about applicable issues in my life--having been in a situation in the last six months when I didn't speak up even though I felt I should, being in a place now to make multiple changes in my life, being who others perceive me to be versus who I know (or at least think I know) I am, not following through on my dreams in life--that really resonanted.

Now, I know that in a lot of situations like this (tarot reading, palm readings, horoscopes) people tend to look for what they want to here. And, having worked with magicians and carnies and having seen "scripts" that people will use for readings, I tend to be a bit more skeptical than some. But, part of me also feels that you put into it what you get out. Meaning that if you believe in the positives that you are told and start working towards them and improving your life, who cares if it's true mysticism or just some hocus pocus?

That being said, I'd love to hear what other people have to say, both positively and negatively about their beliefs and experiences.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

I've never had my fortune told, palm read, tarot done

I'm always afraid of what I'd hear. I guess I'd rather not know what is coming

I have had good ones and bad ones.

One great one, where she told me I would meet Doc and some other things that all came true. She also told me I have three people who constantly watch over me, T, Thomas my dad, R, Rachel my grandmother and M, Michael my brother who have all departed. She knew way too much about me and we went on a whim, and the person I was with, didn't know me all that well. All of the stuff she shared with me that night, has come true. It was amazing. She knew way too much to not be legit.

btw, I don't think they tell you horrible things ever.

had my palm read by three Gypsy ladies..
years... and miles apart...

First one... " you will die an old man.. in strange circumstances "

UM OK

Second one.. " You will be a old man who Dies a violent death"

Um.... OK..

Third.. one..
" you will Die an old man.. at the hands of a jealous with reason young husband"

:o :o :o :o

Scary thing?? I told the second and third one that were my first..
both told me I wasn't telling the truth and that I was just checking
on the results of my first..

(after they told me of my demise) :o :o :o

Cold reading.
Taking advantage of people's emotions.

Study human nature and statistics and you can do it too. Read the visual cues on your sucker. I mean customer. For example clothing, speech, body movement etc. Then start with general statements. Continue fishing while reading the non verbal and verbal responses. Eventually you may get a hit and the subject will not even notice your misses because he or she will be hooked on the general statements as accurate. Same applies to the palm readers and astrologers. Heck, salesmen have been doing this for decades.

The harm comes when you hand over your gas money to these predators that are taking advantage of your weakness. These paranormal parasites may sell it as entertainment, but how many elderly and poor folks give up their money?

I have never had any of those things done, but I have talked about it for years. My sisters and I have talked about it on many different occasions.

There is actually this little town about 45 minutes from my house that is made up of psychics, mediums, and other things in that "field"

called Lilydale. I have heard that it is wonderful there, and very peaceful but I havent gotten there yet.

Realize that for every "good" psychic you will find several con artists. I've had readings - my first from a Cajun lady when I was very young. I guess you can't really call it a reading but rather her telling me a few things about what whould happen in my life.

She was dead on target.

Most good psychics will not tell you anything bad unless you request full disclosure.

We went to a bar with my husbands co-workers on night. It was the first time I met any of them since he had just started his job. (My aunt & uncle also joined us) My aunt and I were wondering why one of the ladies with us kept holding everyone's hands. Turns out she is a psychic. (nurse by day) Now, my aunt doesn't believe in psychics.......well, she didn't until this lady read her palm that night. She was dead on for everything she told both of us. (she was the guest of a coworker, so she knew nothing about us) On another occasion, she read cards for some of us at a party. Once again, dead on. No money was ever exchanged and she will not tell you if something bad is going to happen to you. I think some do have a "gift", but many more are just trying to make a buck.

What is a good psychic? I'm not denying a human has the capability, but I don't think one has proven it yet. Subjective accounts are not proof.

I can't and won't try to change opinion, but I urge folks to resist pseudoscience and sharpen their critical thinking skills with research. I really don't want a guy flying my airplane (if I ever get on one again) based on what another human guessed about his future.
If you are told "you will be miserable for 33 hours but a trip to an old school buddy will change your outlook", you can act on that and actually cause the prediction to be true!

Other then that Jack, that's my thought on the subject. Negative or positive.

When you watch idiots like Sylvia Brown, keep track of her misses over the years.
One has to realize that no one psychic is going to get it right 100% of the time. I choose to believe it's a gift and only a true profit, not a psychic will be correct 100% of the time, not even Nostradamus who some have hailed as a prophet was correct 100% of the time

IMHO if you go to someone who engages in a lot of "conversation" that to me is a red flag because I feel they are trying to gain information based on their conversation. I also wouldn't go to someone that has a "storefront" unless I had heard good things from several different people about the psychic.

I've never paid for a reading, although with the right person I would. I also think a "good" psychic would make a audio recording of the reading for you. That way you can save it for later and go back and see how correct you were. I once had a reading from a psychic at a bar, at the time she and her son were well known in the Dallas area, had been on several different radio stations and worked with the police in locating missing people. I wish for I could remember their names I think his was John Catchings - that rings familiar. Anyway after his death his mom was at a bar one night giving free readings. She told me things that I really did not want to believe but turned out to be true

I don't want to go round and round, but I have this final thing to say about another parasite off human emotions. Police psychics.

Not one documented case of a police psychic solving a case rather then old fashioned police work. When we get a case that makes national news, it is very annoying that hundreds of these people call with false leads. It is a waste of time and resources.

Y'know...holding a fundamentalist belief that "this thing never works" is just as bad as relying on "psychic advice" with no reality-checking.

Yes, there are con people out there, and some days it's possible to do exceedingly well by intelligent guessing. And sometimes it's hard to tell the fakes from the truly gifted ones.

However, I've had experiences - giving *and* receiving - with results that were too eerily accurate to be easily explained away.

I consider myself somewhat of a skeptic, in that I *always* double-check information gotten through metaphysical channels in some way - either by going to a completely different source, or by getting the information through a different means.

At the same time, there are certain aspects of the "gifts" that I can normally rely on, with a better accuracy rate than, say, the weather forecast more than 24 hours out.

Some Muggles, however, are impossible to convince. (*shrug*)

I didn't used to believe so, but I have come to believe there are absolutely people out there who have a gift for seeing/hearing/knowing things they could not have otherwise known.

But yes, there are plenty of cons out there, too. One's gut is usually a good way to tell the difference....

all I know is all the times I heard them on the radio and all the responses of people calling in saying that they were correct in their predictions and I know his mother was correct in the majority of what what she predicted would happen in my life at that time

it's like a belief in a higher power - either you believe or you don't
