Jake the Snake Nearing Rock Bottom

This is pretty sad... I used to love this guy.
TMZ has obtained extremely disturbing footage of the former WWF superstar -- and former substance abuse rehab patient -- self-destructing during a live benefit event in Ohio over the weekend.
The footage shows a stumbling, overweight, rambling Roberts struggling to form a coherent sentence, while addressing the crowd moments before his match in the Firestorm Pro Wrestling league.

The video is really depressing, especially when the guy at the end tries to bail him out by giving him another opportunity to fight. Jake doesn't even respond to the hits and the guy just gives up. Too sad.

Damn - it's sad to see Jake in such sad shape. I used to go watch him in Dallas when he was with WCCW in the early 80's. Unfortunately he's not the only 'rassler to succumb to drug use from that era.

unfortunately relapse isn't uncommon with the addicted. Some often relapse several times before they either clean up or, well face a sad demise.

He's been heading down that path for a long time. Very sad to see.

Oh come on, he's a professional wrestler - it's not like he ever had any dignity to start with.

I imagine he probably also has head trauma issues, as well. Getting hit over the head repeatedly with steel chairs cannot be a good thing.

Snake: "I'm Embarrassed, Scared, Crying a Lot"
Posted Sep 15th 2008 7:05PM by TMZ Staff
A painfully broken Jake "The Snake" Roberts finally opened up about his public self-destruction at an Ohio wrestling event -- admitting the whole thing started when the recovering alcoholic fell off the wagon on the day of the match.
During the extremely emotional interview with Chris Yandek on
CYInterview.com, Snake blames the relapse on a deeply personal radio interview he gave on the day of the meltdown -- where he opened up about being sexually abused as a child (among other terrible things).
Despite taking the blame, Snake still believes someone slipped something into his drink before the match. But there is good news -- even though Jake admits he's "scared to death" and "crying a lot," he is adamant about not giving up on himself.

The owner of the wrestling league called Elliot in the Morning, DC's local shock jock, and gave his side of the whole thing.
From
www.eitmonline.com
Josh Morningstar, part-owner of the promotion company, called to tell us exactly what transpired before, during, and after the event. Here’s a little taste…
“So we pull into 7-Eleven. Jake gets out and proceeds to ask every black person that he sees is they know where to buy crack cocaine. Now, this is Jake “The Snake” Roberts in Martinsburg, West Virginia, so of course there’s a humongous crowd around him and he’s giving away pictures, trying to find crack. Freakin’ finally buys a bag of coke and he says, “This n*gger said it was cooked up. It’s not cooked up!”

I don't know that I believe this all completely, but this guy's side of it doesn't leave me with as much sympathy for Jake.

I don't believe it all completely either- for one if Snake were cooking power coke to make crack with a spoon and he messed it up he wouldn't need another spoon. He'd simply discard the messed up portion and re-use the spoon like the majority of crack heads that cook with a spoon would do.
