East Coast Peeps...I'm lookin for some seafood help!!

Post by Captain Morgan »

I'm hosting a crab boil at my house Oct 10 and am having a bit of trouble finding anyone to ship live blue crab for under $500  .

Anyway, what's a bushel of live blue crab going for out there? I'm looking for 2 bushels of number 1s...number 2s if the price is right. Anyone have any connections? If not, anyone willing to purchase and ship to my house? I'll of course take care of all the costs of the crab and shipping.

Please let me know, thanks!

ps...I'm also looking for (5) or (6) 1lb live lobsters if anyone has any hookups there! 8)

I'll look for the number of a girl I knew in High School. Back in the day, she'd give ya all the crabs you could handle for the price of a cheap 6-pack.

unfortunately the price of blue crabs has gone way up in recent years. I grew up on a river by the Chesapeake bay (best blue crabs in the world bar none) and was eating blue crabs before i could walk. My father still lives there and i think he pays close to $100.00-150.00 a bushel. The quality and size has gone down hill as people crab in the off season which effects the population as well as conditions in the bay. I remember as a kid we would crab off of my dad's dock with a string and piece of chicken and catch crabs all day. Now the population has decreased as people go over the limit on females not allowing them to regenerate. It really is a shame. I live in the seafood capitol of South Carolina and the crabs we get here are pathetic, very very small and at least 1/4 are always females. There used to be a restaurant in OC MD where you could bring a cooler of beer and sit down at a picnic table and they would bring blue crabs until you could no longer function you were so full. You may want to try to contact someone in the bay area however i know the quality has gone down as well as the quality. One thing i always look forward to when i go visit my father is eating blue crabs, but sadly its just not the same as it used to be. This is a good article about the ongoing problems in the bay with the blue crab population.

I know I dont get there often enough but god knows I surely try
