Can you all believe there are idiots out there who think McCain is using this Economic Situation for political gain. Talk about d*mned if you do, d*mned if you don't. Thank you Mr. McCain for doing the right thing which is your job as a Senator. After a full years and tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars spent on campaigns between all the candidates it is time for the two remaining to actually do something productive.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

If McCain were serious about wanting to help the economy, and not just playing games, he would have been in Washington on Monday morning and just rolled up his sleeves.

Actually, why can't they both just let the campaigns run without them for a few days while they sit down over a table in the Senate building with everyone else and hash stuff out? They could take a few hours out for the debate on Friday night, which they could televise from the Senate floor, which is already equipped for that. Work gets done and debate happens on schedule.

Unfortunately, that would be too sensible.

I think it's a little bit of both...I would never doubt McCain is eager to help alievate the Wall St. Crisis. He should have been there last Saturday doing something...I do think he might be a little gun shy of debating Obama also...

Did you hear what date McCain wants to push the first debate back to? October 3rd !!!

Coincedence has it that is scheduled date for the ONLY Vice-presidential debate!! hmmmmm

Neither candidate has voted in the Senate since April.
Neither has any pull in this congressional debate right now.

This is grandstanding and gamesmanship at it's worst.
The real John McCain would have nothing to do with a bailout (and he said so just last week!), yet now he wants to claim the high road towards a new deal? please....

...and when you're dropping like a hot rock in the polls, I guess this is the appropriate stunt to pull. :x :x :x

They are both Senators and as such should be there for what everyone agrees is a crucial time for congress to get this right. If them being there is not important how the hell are they qualified to be president????
Is McCain doing this as part of a politial ploy? Probably part of ithe spin is to make Obama look uncaring.
But Obama saying you need to do more than one thing at a time is comical because all he has ever done is try to get to the next level withouth doing what he was elected to do (see the mess in Illinois).
The sad truth is if one of these two cured cancer, they other side would blast them for it.
Im voting for myself this election, at least I will know what I am getting

We have a winner!
Plus, I'm seriously on the fence......I NEED A DEBATE NOW to make up my mind. It would be a travesty if they don't debate soon.

Why don't they just have their speechwriters debate each other? It's not like either candidate is capable of independent thought anyway.

Otter: Point of parliamentary procedure!
Hoover: Don't screw around, they're serious this time!
Otter: Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon: I thought you were pre-med.
Otter: What's the difference?
[Addressing the room]
Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.
[winks at Dean Wormer]
Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

If McCain actually suspended his campaign then shouldn't his paid surrogates stop appearing on TV attacking Obama and Biden and promoting McCain's leadership?

It still bugs me that a quality character guy like John McCain is stooping to the levels that he is to get elected president. Some of the commerical that he approved are pretty pathetic. Granted after watching some of Obama's stuff, you'd get the impression that he is the Second Coming of Christ.

Got to be a better way of getting the message across...

It's nothing if not entertaining. I found the entire DNC to be that way. And then the RNC the next week tried to be like the DNC and they pretty much failed. There is a big drop off between Sheryl Crow playing before you go on and Rich from Big and Rich singing perhaps one of the worst songs ever written in "Raising McCain"

Not unless they should be somewhere else, like representing their constituents.

I don't think Tucker Bounds and Nancy Pfotenhauer have constituents.
