Jimmy Buffett is a DEMOCRAT?

Post by CaptainP »

I can't listen to his music anymore!!!!!

Sorry, I thought I'd toss that out there as a joke, before some other idiot actually says it for real. It happens every election year....

You may now all return to making intelligent posts.

You are right, it happens every year and we all have the various discussions about the correct role for musicians and artists and whether they should discuss their politics at a concert or show. I'm hoping we can take a break from that tradition this year. :D

I was always suprised he was not a little more closer to John McCain. Both are pilots, spent some time in Mississippi, close ties to the ocean, multi-millionaires, and are grey on top and losing their hair....

I can't imagine caring about someone you don't know's political opinion but beyond that I can't even imagine Jimmy Buffett voting. He is too busy killing the environment with all of his planes and boats to vote! Lousy environment killing Democrats. Al Gore you are a bad role model.

Yes, I am kidding.

Yes, I am kidding.
Yeah, but given Gore's actual lifestyle, you aren't.

Well, I don't actually think Jimmy votes (most years; how could he since he is usually gone . . . I doubt he would go through the trouble to vote from another country or state that he lives in . . . . ) and Al Gore is the world's biggest hypocrit when it comes to the environment followed closely by Bono and Jimmy Buffett . . . and I don't care how celebrities vote to begin with; so, yeah - I wasn't.

Seems I recall him being interviewed once, said he didn't bring politics into it because he's the original laid back lifestyle guy.....and he didn't want to p!$$ off half of his fans.

I have no problem with it....I just disagree with him.

I think Michael Jordan, a lifelong Democrat, said it best (back when he was endorsing Nike shoes):
He said
"I refuse to make any political endorsements because Republicans ALSO buy Nikes."

I think Jimmy pretty much subscribes to the same theory.
He campaigns for and votes for Democrats (on his own time), but he has always kept his concerts what they were meant to be-CONCERTS, not Ditzi-Twit love-ins.

not quite the same thing. in fact, it would appear this is just fear of alienating idiots who base their shoe purchases on the spokesman's politics. not quite impartiality, just a grab for the bucks.

Well, like it or not, there ARE people who do that.
They won't buy Nikes if M.J. endorses a particular candidate. (I don't buy Nikes because I don't think my shoes should cost more than my S.U.V.),
They won't go hear Jimmy sing if he endorses certain candidates at his concert (is that REALLY why you go to the shows)?

Say what you will about these guys, but they KNOW how to give the customer what they want.

Was anyone really listening to Jimmy because of his politics? I have hung out in a few parking lots and no one ever asked by party affiliation. We are parrot heads because it is who we are.

All that said...a lot of money has been made and a lot of people influenced by those artists who *do* take a strong political stand. Yes, it will p*ss off half your potential audience...but the rest will buy everything you produce, and might actually listen to what you're trying to get across.

It's a trade-off thing.

Does anyone else find it ironic that in the reworked version of "Fruitcakes" one of the lines is "we're being f**ked by oil tycoons"? This from a guy who's raised his ticket prices by how much in the last 3 or 4 years?
