Bomba Shack Full Moon Party

Post by catsway »

We will be in Tortola on October 14th, which is the full moon. Has anyone every attended one of the Bomba Shack's Full Moon parties? We have the option to take the last ferry to St. Thomas at 4pm or to stay on Tortola and spend the night so we can attend the party. Is it worth staying the extra night? We also want to check out Quito Rymer's Gazebo also.

If You have a chance stay on Tortola!

It gets a bit strange at the Bomba Shack on Full Moon nights.
I tried the mushroom tea but did not notice much if any effect.
But had had more than my fair share of rum for about a week prior.

Quito's and the other bars at cane garden bay are lots of fun as well.
( Many nice Mom and Pop hotels at Cane Garden bay)
Long Bay is very close to Bomba Shack , a very nice place to stay.

Please call a cab when leaving Bomba shack late at night esp on full moon party night ,it gets very dark and even if staying close the road is very curvey, Drivers may not be able to see you walking.
What is my co-pay for Margaritaville?

Thank you for the great review. I wonder what's in that mushroom tea? We will follow your advice and take a cab. We are staying on St. Thomas for a few days prior, then I think we have decided on staying at Quito's Hotel for the night of the full moon so we can be close to Cane Garden Bay, Quito's Gazebo and then cab over to Bomba Shack for the party around 9PM. We also want to have lunch at Stanley's Welcome Bar for the cheesebuger. We'll take the first Native Son's ferry in the morning from the West End to Red Hook so we can finish our visit at Secret Harbor. We appreciate your advice.

Don't forget to make a trip to Callwood Rum while at Cane Garden Bay too. You won't believe it :o

We stayed at Quito's hotel too. Back then it was kind of rustic. May have changed some by now. We loved it....but then we aren't into luxury hotels much....

Check out Lighthouse Villas on Cane Garden Bay. Stayed there a week and it was nice for the price.

We'll be on Tortola for the October 14th Full Moon Party too but honestly am not sure if we'll go. We attended one two years ago and while I enjoyed it, I wasn't overly impressed. If you've never been I HIGHLY encourage you to go---if for no other reason than to say you did it. Just don't set your expectations that high--it's similiar to a good college frat party.

Skip the tea too. From what I understand "back in the day" it was really something but they had some problems and make it much weaker than they used to. Stick to the rum punch!

Lastly, as I'm finding out myself now, a lot of places in CGB and throughout the BVI will not be opened for the season yet, I'm pretty sure Quito's is one of them.

Perhaps I'll see you there. Look for a bunch of drunks (there will be 3 couples) with Boston accents and that will be us!
Indecision may or may not be my problem....

Thank you for the advice. We are still researching where to stay the night of the 14th. Right now we are leaning towards Ole Works Inn (Quito's Place) or Ryhmer's Beach Hotel. We plan to call them Monday to make sure the published rates are accurate and make a reservation. See our pic on our signature below. Maybe we'll spot one another and share some boat drinks! If you travel to St Thomas, we are staying at Secret Harbour Resort near Red Hook from the 11th till the 17th. We'll be just chilling on the beach, having cocktails at the Blue Moon and snorkeling.

I love CGB... :D I highly recommend the Mongoose Apartments!! Great place--huge room, the owner (Sandra) is great, and it's just a 3 minute walk down a coconut palm lined lane to Cane Garden Bay (next to Stanley's Welcome Bar, the best place to enjoy a cheeseburger and a pina colada). We only went to Bomba's during the day (it was very quiet but a great place). Enjoy!!!

We've stayed at the Mongoose before and that is we're we'll be this time. You're right and it IS a great place. We've got 3 of the 6 apartments resrved though so i'm not sure if they'll have availability. It's worth researching though.

Catsway,
thanks for the invite for Boat Drinks. We're starting this trip with three nights at Caneel Bay in St. John so maybe we will see you.

This is our first time to Caneel. Normally it's way out of our price range but if you go during Hurricane season it's not as expensive! :D

No problem with the rum punch!! I hear they give you one at the airport and I know they give them to you on the Caneel ferry.

We were getting worried about finding a place to stay at the last minute since whenever I called Rhymer's or Ole Works Inn, I wasn't getting anyone to answer the phone. I call a friend in St. Croix and he got me in touch with someone at Quitos. They will reopen for the season on October 10th. We did get a room for the night at Rhymer's Beach Hotel for $87USD inclusive of tax on the night of the Oct. 14th. So it looks like everything is going to work out. We have been asked by a friend to take his father's final liscense plate (he passed away this summer) to Bomba Shack and have it placed on the wall. It was one his father's favorite places. The whole family has signed the plate. We feel honored to fulfill their request on the night of the full moon.

Good news on Quito's, it's a fun spot and a good choice for dinner. The owners of Mongoose have the only house DIRECTLY on CGB---way to the left of Rhymers and Quito's. Most guest hang out in front of this little house and I anticipate we'll be there most of the time.

It is a nice honor to hang the license plate and I hope it goes well for you.

Have a great vacation!

I am sure we'll be cruisin' the beach. We'll walk down that way and look for you. I am sure the boat drinks will be a dead giveaway. Have a wonderful vacation and safe travels.
