Many coincidences, but one big difference.

Kenny Chesney was a successful country artist before he started recording music that he enjoys. Jimmy had only one top ten song before he left Nashville and ended up in Key West.

Another difference: Kenny wants to develop "his own brand of premium rum." If Landshark Lager and Margaritaville Tequila are any indication, Jimmy is not going to compete in the same segment of the market.

I'm not a Chesney fan, I think he has a whiny sounding voice and I don't care for his music. But really, what's the big deal? You don't like him, keep your wallet in your pocket like I do. Yeah, I goof on him every now and then but if people like him, who cares?

Well im not sure how to put it into words. I guess simply until I can find a better way of saying it. Its the principal of the whole thing. And I agree with you that I keep my wallet in my pocket for him.

Many, myself included, have tried Landshark Lager and Margaritaville Tequila and found them to be lacking in quality and taste. They slapped the trademark on a poor product and sold a boatload of it to people just because it has Jimmy's name on it.

The article mentions Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Tequila which is recognized by many to be a high quality product. If Kenny and Constellation Spirits produce a product of similar quality, it is likely to be successful.

I don't get what the problem is....
You have Toby Keith's bar... Everybody Loves This Bar
Margaritaville
Sammy Hagar Tequila...came out befor Buffett's
Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico and Taho (I think)
And now Kenny Chesney is going to have his own rum....how cares????

I'm sure he is looking at it as a business venture, and a way to keep his name out there. He is not the first one to do it, and Buffett is not the only one to have done it. If you really wanted to you could say that Buffett was ripping off Hagar. But since everybody rips Buffetts tequila, and say that Hagar's is better they don't do that. And if Chesney's product is better than Buffett's...is he still copying Buffett, or will he be copying Hagar???? Or will it stand on it's own somewhere inbetween?

Has anybody said that Buffett coming out with his own salsa is copying Paul Newman? You know that Newman had his own salsa long before Buffett. And I haven't read anywhere that said Buffett is just a poor rip off of Hagar in the liquor market.

It's all about the money and the name brand. Chesney has just as much right to test the market, and expand his name, as any other singer, or actor.

Don't get me wrong...I love Buffett's music. But I also don't have anything against Chesney, or anybody else trying to market themselves. Buffett wasn't the first to do it, and he won't be the last. He just may be one of the most successful.

Just my five cents worth....and if you read this far...fins up to you!! :pirate:

Lacking in quality and taste is being over generous. I just go with they taste like crap!!!!

...by in large, KC's product line is marketed to a smaller audience, due to trans fat aka "vegetable shortening", hence the shorter shelf life.

...even though Chesney's running short on time, there's still talk of releasing his country jazz album with the late, great Wayne Shorter.

Kenny's already gotten a lot of mileage out of the whole trop rock thing. I know he's headed for a severe gas shortage.

Kenny Chesney on baking - "shortbread"
Kenny Chesney on everything - "In reality, it's only a short term solution."
Kenny Chesney on football - "...to be used in short yardage situations."

The Buffett fans here seem to be displaying a little jealousy over success of Kenny. Why so bitter guys?

I don't think it's jealously. I think it for whatever reason some here love to harp on the guy for his love of the carribean and his music. I read the article this morning and just for fun I came over to see how long before it was posted and the harping began...shock!!! :D
