That's pretty much the way it is-for the presidency, your runs have to be "earned," but in baseball it doesn't matter whether they've been earned or not.
In some ways it's fair, in some ways it isn't. I.E.-California has more say so as to who becomes president than all of New England (six states), PA, OH, and IN combined.

I wonder what the largest popular vote margin ever was? As you said, it's going to be pretty close tonight, as the last several have been.
It would either be the 1972 or 1984 elections that had the biggest margin of victory.

Ok...after a bit of research, I found this:

Popular Vote Winners: LBJ in 1964 (61.0 percent), FDR in 1936 (60.8 percent), and Nixon in 1972 (60.7 percent)

because "we the people" don't elect the president. we elect the electors who elect the president. the system was set up that way to give every part of the country an equal say, not just the large population centers

Obama has won Iowa.

He'll win California and Hawaii also.
That will give him 266 electoral votes.

Last person out, please shut off the lights. :x

I find it interesting that in the last 50 years, control of The White House has changed from one party to the other every eight years with two exceptions.

Harry Truman
Dwight Eisenhower
John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson
Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford
Jimmy Carter - lost to Ronald Reagan after one term
Ronald Reagan
George H Bush
- defeated Michael Dukakis in 1988 election
Bill Clinton
George W Bush

While the outcome may be historic, control of The White House changing parties after eight years is pretty common.

The numbers currently reported by CNN are nowhere near a landslide.

Obama 21,914,412 (50%)
McCain 21,300,560 (49%)

I'd hate to see anybody break their arm while patting themselves on the back.

I used to think I was lazy when I just sat and Googled for information. I don't even do that anymore, I just ask BN and let my crack team of researchers get to work.

i understand that and know how it works....but it doesn't make sense when and if it ever happens...shouldn't the person with the most votes win!!!...it should be 50 states combined!!...why should RI count less then say Texas!!!...just a thought and opinion!!!
