I know there's LOTS of people who disagree with me. There always has been, and I'm okay with that. And you know what? There's LOTS of people whose political views are different than mine that I think the world of. (You among them). As such, I've been TRYING to tone down my rhetoric some, but there's the usual two or three that make it very hard to do so. Sorry if I get OVERLY passionate, but, to me, if those certain people can dish it out, they should be able to take it.Side note to Garry - just so you know, there wasn't any single person you laid all that stuff on - it was a generalization directed towards those of us who don't believe what you believe - so you don't really need to apologize to any one person in particular, I just thought it was a bad choice of words and they belie the soft heart that I have to believe exists somewhere.
That being said, I hold no grudges wish any ill will toward anyone here for simply disagreeing with me.
I'm also sorry if THIS strikes a nerve, but most of my general hatred and contempt is toward most university & college professors, who, I.M.O., seem to think it's their job to INDOCTRINATE the masses, as evidenced by the campus atmosphere these days. Thank God most of the kids seem open minded enough to HAVE an open mind and think for themselves.
I remember very vividly the 1960's when all the a-holes on campus were buring their draft cards because it was fashionable, while, at the same time, I was half a world away dodging bullets. And to think those same people these days are TEACHING (or ATTEMPTING to teach) today's youths scares the living hell out of me. I guess I'm just one of those old fashioned guys who appreciates the history of this country and all things that make it great. And socialism isn't one of them.
Another group I have general contempt for is today's journalists. I won't get into why (unless I'm asked), because I think you understand, if not agree with, how I feel.
The days when news was REPORTED, (ala Edward R. Murrow) are long gone. What's happened to journalism in the last 50 or so years to make people feel toward that profession the same way most feel toward lawyers? You tell ME.
Again, I'm not here to hurt ANYONE'S feelings, but if I p*ss a few people off by me being me, they can deal with it, the same way I do with them.
My candidates have lost elections before, and I've been fine.
If that's the case this time as well, I expect I'll be the same loveable goofy dirty old man I've always been.
And yes, I DO have a big soft heart.
It's right here beneath my big soft belly.

Granted, Garry's views and mine don't always mesh, but I ALWAYS know where he stands on issues. I will gladly take an intelligent argument formed by one's own mind over sheep following what they heard some talking head say. I respect that. I believe people who hate to be disagreed with are merely afraid someone will ask them why they think what they think, and they won't have an answer.
To paraphrase Voltaire: I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it (IF you know what the f**k you are talking about).

So far, not one word from her to discourage this kind of behavior.
Whether she heard it or not, she can discourage it. It would take one sentence.

It's really sad to see the McCain campaign reduced to this kind of pandering to its base. I know all about "red meat" speeches, but Palin has stepped WAY over the line.
If, indeed, their supporters are so completely entrenched in their beliefs, we've still got a long way to go on the issue of race and tolerance.
It makes me incredibly sad. A black activist broke my jaw at a pep rally in college ... our school mascot was a Rebel ... they changed to Mavericks (ironic, huh?) ... at the last pep rally, outside agitators came onto campus.
I was a twirler. My place was at one end of the line, so I needed to go out first to keep the line in order. I was headed out to the little staging area and ran into a black mountain. The mountain was full of rage and hatred, something I don't think I had ever experienced first-hand, but immediately understood.
The mountain hit me with a cross hook and I went down. The next thing I remember, there were TV cameras in my face and I was begging them not to put the story on until someone had called my mama.
I hope I see some kind of reconciliation of the races and some kind of harmony in America before I die.

Thre's something I find interesting. It's the number of musicians that have complained about the McCain/Palin campaign using their music without permission. So far there's Bon Jovi, Heart, Foo Fighters, John Mellencamp and Jackson Brown.
One would think that after the first complaint the campaign would THINK to just ask before using someone else's work. Is this an indication of the candidates - I don't know but it looks like someone in their campaign has little respect for the work of others. Now I know there are "real issues" worth talking (or fighting) about - I just found this interesting.

Kurtz's assertions are fueled by a conspiracy of pure guilt by association.
America is clearly fed up with the constant playing of the "fear the black man" card...
I'll be curious to see if John McCain has the GUTS to voice these same concerns, tonight,
that he has been sending Palin and the other wonks out to do.

Well, the best the Republicans seem to be able to do these days is Rich from Big and Rich fame who one of the worst songs possiblly ever written in "Raising McCain". I really haven't been paying attention enough to McCain to see if they play that piece of garbage at rallies.ph4ever wrote:Thre's something I find interesting. I find the whole music thing to be sort of a funny topic. All those people you just named I think are pretty much lined up with the Democrats. Browne and Mellencamp campaigned for Kerry in 2004.
Aside from a high school nickname can anyone tell me what the song "Barrcuda" has to do with Sarah Palin? I find the playing of that after she joined McCain on stage at the Republican convention to be pretty funny. It's one of many things I find about the McCain-Palin ticket to be funny, well bordering on sad. It really makes me mad, because I thought John McCain was a lot better of a man then what he has started to sink to. He's definitely not the man I thought he was.
I thank the Lord for the people I have found

Buckley didn't write that.

Does Sarah Palin have a child with autism or did McCain get confused? I know her youngest has Down's, but McCain mentioned a connection with Palin and autism during the debate.

Totally sick and tired of personal attacks on both sides.
No one here will have their minds/opinions changed by what any one of us say. Facts/hearsay/thoughts are our own, and let's keep it that way without the nasty/rude/snippy comments.
I did find it amusing when Obama cited Fox News (who many consider 'one sided' ) as saying something in favor of him, but otherwise doesn't care for the station.
John really ooop's when he called McCain "Senator Government" and got his words mixed up.
Overall? Americans will vote the way they want. And to keep whining, bitching, personally attacking anyone just wastes my energy.

Oh, I hope everyone knows I am not knocking Palin's kids I was just curious, he mentioned autism and Palin directly, "Governor Palin knows about autism" or something like thatsonofabeach wrote:me thinks he was refering to a child with special needs.

I didn't take it as McCain being confused when he brought up autism. I think he was simply raising the point that autism is occuring at increasingly alarming rates.UAHparrothead wrote:Oh, I hope everyone knows I am not knocking Palin's kids I was just curious, he mentioned autism and Palin directly, "Governor Palin knows about autism" or something like thatsonofabeach wrote:me thinks he was refering to a child with special needs.
