I'll bet they're like every publication still in business ... we used to have a full time proofer ... not anymore ... things get past people whose job is sports or features or photography ... I *long* for a full-time proof reader ... especially at an understaffed daily newspaper. [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
typos happen.

What really bothers me, as newspapers and online publications continue to cut staff, is the number of grammatical errors in articles.
I know folks complain about "the grammar police" in online forums,
but people who write for a living should NOT make common grammar errors.

Just a pet peeve...
sorry to bring it up on a "don't worry, be happy" day
I really hope your kidding. I think they're main focus should be on grammer. If they cant take the time to proof and give an first class finished product, were waisting our time reading there publications. Were living in a world wear phoenics kneads to be emphasized not forgotten about.
That's REALLY painful to read. :o  :o
One thing was accidental. I instinctively went to edit the post and it was better than anything I had thoughtfully written, so it stayed.

sometimes it's just a matter of being in a hurry...and using the improper grammar, or spelling of a word.

in proof-reading some things, I've found myself using their in place of there, and vice-versa And I know very well which one belonged.

with Text messaging and spell check one wonders what the printed word will evolve into. (ending a sentence with a preposition?...not sure it was a sentence...proper sentence, anyway)

probably not going to have to worry about newspapers at the rate they're dying...

I hate when they split words up with no regard for syllables, just make it fit. The Wall Street Journal was one of the last bastions of good proofreading but, alas, it's now like all the rest.
