Post by blackjacks wife »

I was just volenteered to be Room Mom for our daughters 3rd grade Halloween party.

I need a few ideas of fun things to do with the kids.

Arts and Crafts? Food Fun? Group Games???

off the top of my head---the kids love BINGO and use candy corn to cover the squares---fun to play and then they eat the markers

My wife's class used to do that...till they banned candy in the school (yes, even for Halloween  ). Last year they bobbed for apples. Not the most "sanitary" activity, but the kids loved it.

I was never room mom.... I think the other mothers voted and decided I should be kept away, for the good of all.... Something about field stripping a 9mm being an inappropriate activity for a seven year old..... :P

Seriously, I have no idea whatsoever..... But I'll send phin power and good thoughts! [smilie=blush.gif]

What???? Too many kids with peanut allergies or too many parents with "overprotect-ive-itus"?

Glad I could bring a little levity.

I once reviewed my sons' school's procedures for a hostage situation. They had all the teachers locking the doors and drawing the blinds. When I pointed out that it took away a SWAT sniper's opportunity for a shot I thought the poor teacher and principle were going to pass out..... :o

Entire district banned candy, soda, etc. to encourage healthy eating choices. Good in theory, I guess, but not very practical at times like Halloween or classroom birthday parties. No birthday cupcakes, Christmas cookies, things like that. But pizza is OK as long as it's not dbl. cheese and only one meat topping. Go figure. :-?

Yes, that was my job at school, too......I couldn't do the regular mom things very well, but I ROCKED the emergency plan!

No kidding, Jen...when I brought up those flaws (and many others) with our emergency plans, my staff looked at me like I was on crack. Same thing when I pointed out our little white bread kids flashing gang signs in school pics. :x Then I brought in a few parents who were cops and that seemed to help.

I always made chocolate spiders with my students. Take a mini chocolate donut, spread choco frosting on one side, put 4 long skinny licorice strips across the frosting, put a little frosting on the bottom of the other donut and put it on top of the legs. Put 2 dots of white tube frosting on the side of the top donut and stick 2 red hots in for the eyes. They were cute.
