I hate to admit it but getting laid off from my mortgage industry job last year has caused my to be more careful with the funds I spend. I'm fortunate I've got plenty in the bank, but if things stay tough for another couple of years, I might need the money. I think I was the poster boy for the well paid, well heeled Orange County Parrothead but I will pass that torch to the next in line. I'd hate to think I'm just getting older... prefer to hope I'm a little wiser.....

Skipping Jimmy this year
For the first time since it rained at Irvine Meadows about 1993 and the management shut the doors, I'm skipping a Buffett concert. The Buffett Show has always been a combination of Christmas and my birthday wrapped into one 9 hour marathon. It has been a family affair since 1979 at a LA venue and Irvine Meadows is where my kids came of age but as much as my heart will be at Chula Vista, I'm giving it a miss.

Re: Skipping Jimmy this year
Best wishes to you - I'm in the same industry on the other side of the country. I work for a large bank so I'm still employed but the paychecks aren't what they used to be. You were smart to save some of the money you made when times were good. I did the same.Beach Explorer wrote:For the first time since it rained at Irvine Meadows about 1993 and the management shut the doors, I'm skipping a Buffett concert. The best of luck going forward.

Mortgage business here, too. I even made a blog post that 'makes light' about how times have changed for us. But it hasn't been fun.
Gotta take care of your primary needs before whooping off money on fun tickets.

I am "cutting back" these days also, as my design position was "down-sized" a couple months back.
I got my San Diego tix well before that, but now being back in school at night, and on a specific job search,
I couldn't justify the luxury of also going up to Vegas this weekend, which is always a total blast, but costlier.
I feel fortunate to able to see Jimmy at a local venue tomorrow!

Have fun! Now is when you need it most - I'm glad you're still going to be able to make it. It's the reason I'm still going to MOTM - to forget all the BS for few days.Lightning Bolt wrote:I am "cutting back" these days also, as my design position was "down-sized" a couple months back.![]()

I'm so sorry for that these hard times are affecting so many of us. For now, hubby and I are ok (on our state pensions HAHAHA), but it is having an impact on the way we plan our fun also. I have only attended one concert a year for the last several years, so will keep my arthritic fingers crossed that Jimmy will be somewhere near Ohio/western PA this coming summer and will start saving early for the whole experience. This all sucks, but at least we have our BN friends to commiserate with. Fins up and great prospects to you all! ![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)

I hear what you're saying about times being tough. There's a lot of that going around.
You've done a positive thing by getting yourself set up here and staying in touch with the Parrothead Nation. Here are a couple of more lower-budget ideas for getting regular doses of that Paradise state of mind:
-- Join your local Parrothead club, if you're not already a member. OCPHC is huge and extremely active, with many social and charitable events. Info on all Parrothead clubs is available at http://www.phip.com.
-- Support your local and regional Trop Rock artists, who play Buffett tunes and our own originals with that Parrothead flavor. You've got quite a fine crew down there, from pholks like Bob Karwin north of you to Jerry Gontang (Stars on the Water), Rob Mehl, and more down in San Diego. You can find out about other Trop Rock artists on http://www.margaritamafia.com and http://www.tropicaldreams.net among others.
-- Listen to some of the great Trop Rock stations online - there's a fairly good list on the Margarita MAFIA Website.
These are all phun ways of staying connected and keeping that Buffett vibe going.
Good luck keeping your finances above water!

Just in case the urge gets bad, if you live somewhat close to the venue, then remember that tailgating isn't too expensive, and who knows, you might end up with a ticket well under face from a scalper?Beach Explorer wrote:For the first time since it rained at Irvine Meadows about 1993 and the management shut the doors, I'm skipping a Buffett concert...

You have company, it's nice to report that Stubhub sales are down for everything except the most premium seats/packages
