I've seen so many different concerts in my life and have thought long and hard about this. There's just so many and each concert held memorable experiences. I'm sure there's been more than once I've walked out of a venue and uttered the words "That was the best damn show!!"

But if I had to narrow it down to just one:
August 20, 1983, Cotton Bowl, Dallas - Simon and Garfunkel. It was 2 days after Alicia hit Galveston/Houston and right as they began to sing The Sounds of Silence the rain started ever so lightly. All you could hear was them singing and the rain falling ever so lightly on your umbrella. It gave me goosebumps.

OH yeah I forgot about the Beastie Boys that was a very good show..

and John Denver, he played Tulsa every year, had relatives livings there...always entertaining....

Leon Russell is/was always an excellent show but I still gotta hang with Pink Floyd as the most memorable.

There were some good shows in the 70's. You also had bands that were great on their albums, like Pink Floyd, whose live performance wasn't as musically sound as the albums but still a good technical show. Blue Oyster Cult was another - remember when they started the lazer light shows? Zappa was always fun - I remember Godzilla sat 2 rows in front of me once.

ELVIS. At his best he was absolutely unmatchable.

I haven't seen a whole lot of performances....

Seger, Journey, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tommy James, Herman's Hermits, Righteous Brothers, BJ Thomas, Bill Medley (alone), Neil Diamond and Jimmy.

I saw Neil Diamond in a community college gym. He put on a spectacular show. However, my first Buffett concert right after 9/11 was a very special experience.

Elton John puts on one helluva performance.

I saw him earlier this year...I would have LOVED to have seen him in the early days.

Lynyrd Skynyrd also put on a good show.....the guitar solo at the end of Free Bird gave me goosebumps.

Since then I've seen most of the major acts from the 70's 80's and early 90's including Pink Floyd( simple amazing- Gilmour solo is great too), Van Halen (with DLR and Sammy), ZZ Top, BOC, Grateful Dead with Petty and Dylan ( Dylan has sucked all 3 times I've seen him), Bruce, Rod Stewart (puts on a great show), many Heavy Metal acts....etc. The show that stands out the most is still my first...AC/DC
....the stage was black, then this light shines on a huge 12 ft gong in the center of the stage and Bon Scott had a sledge hammer and started hitting it ....gong.............gong..........gong..........then this blue spot hits Angus Young on top of these speakers, 20 ft above the left side of the stage as he starts the guitar riff of Hells Bells....27 years later I've got goosebumps writing this....AWESOME show!
Now, there is this other guy who affects me the same way as that first one. When I see him live, there will normally be a couple times per show that his lyrics, his showmanship and the talent of he and his band will cause me to tear up with joy and passion for what his music means to me. That's why I'm here on Buffettnews :D

this is a great post for my 3000th...thanks for starting the thread...brings back some great memories :D
Amen brother! AC/DC is the best live show I have seen.

Forgot to mention also saw Johhny Winter perform at a small
ballroom at a hotel in New Cumberland, PA. I was literally three feet
from him the whole show. Some GREAT blues. This was sometime
between 1989 and 1993. :pirate:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you didn't see Bon Scott. He died before Back In Black. That was Brian Johnson, who has Been the lead singer from Back In Black Forward, and I would have to agree that AC/DC is one of the best shows around (can't wait for their next tour!).

Some of the best acts I've seen (alphabetically):
AC/DC (just plain awesome)
Jimmy Buffett (just amazing in a small room with a full band)
Joe Cocker (I mean, c'mon, it's Joe Cocker)
Coldplay (surprisingly animated)
Sir Paul McCartney (He's a friggin' Beatle! Might be best show ever.)
Tina Turner (three tiered stage!)
U2 (there's a reason the've been so big for so long)

There are many more, but those are the top. (oh, and biggest disappointments, Black Crowes and Eric Clapton).

Saw Lynard Skynard right after their "Come Back". At that time they wouldn't sing Free Bird. The audience did it for them, they just played. There wasn't a dry eye in the place...I'll never forget it. I still have the Free Bird lyric sheet they handed out at the door...framed :D

None. He puts on a good show.

Best live show? I've been to quite a few so it's hard to pick one out. One of the most memorable was Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck. Front row-center. *It* *was* *awesome*. Beck's drummer Terry Bozzio was amazing. He was drumming so hard I thought his arms were going to fall off.
