boston.com has a glowing review of AC/DC's new album Black Ice.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I can't shake the bias I've got against Brian Johnson/Back In Black version of AC/DC.

I'll take all 5 albums done with original vocalist/frontman Bon Scott over anything done since.
Somewhere here, I read someone writing about how they saw Bon Scott banging a gong to open Hells Bells at a 1980 concert (that never happened), and it just made me sad. :(

I'll give the new disk a listen, but I'm not expecting anything remotely fresh.

AC/DC with Bon Scott was amazing. Bon Scott screaming his way through Problem Child - amazing.

I haven't heard the new album but I have read there's at least a tune or two that deviate from the AC/DC norm. That said, the Bon Scott era of the band suffered from what many see as their weakness, the same ol' same ol'. The upside of that is, they do one thing but they do that one thing very well.

As for Brian Johnson, I've never cared that much for him either but I can't deny they pulled a rabbit out of the hat with Back In Black. Most bands that lose their lead singer never regain any semblance of their former popularity. That AC/DC did was a very rare feat indeed.

Its really good, nothing fancy pretty much what you expect from a great band. I have loved the all ACDC channel on Sirius.

And earth to others...Bon Scott is still dead. Time to let it go.

No doubt but there's no harm in stating a preference.

Having been an ACDC fan for 30+ years now I like the fact that the one thing you can always count on with any ACDC release is Rock And Roll. They don't mess around with what's popular at the time and experiment with this and that it's always straight ahead Rock and Roll, Period. It was like it on High Voltage, it was like it on Back in Black, and it was like that on Razors Edge and it's like that on Black Ice.
This is not the second coming of Let There Be Rock but there are a few stand out tracks; Rock and Roll Train, War Machine, Big Jack, Rock and Roll Dream all caught my attention the first time through. There are a couple of tunes that sound different but one thing you can bet on, there's no Ballads on this.

Kick-a$$ album. Hypothetically, was I able to get a copy of an unreleased album the Friday before its nationwide release, I hypothetically would have spent the entire weekend listening to it.

Hypothetically.

I'm the one that posted about seeing the banging of the gong but never said it was 1980, I said I was 16. However you are right, it was Brian Johnson who opened the show with the gong. Here's my original post ( for accuracy sake) viewtopic.php?t=72567&start=20

and here's the setlist from the show I saw (again, for accuracy sake - I'd hate for people to think i intentionally lie in my posts. BTW, I was born in Sept 1965, and posted in the original post that it was 27 years ago, you do the math) http://www.acdc-bootlegs.com/concerthistory/?gig=897

As for the new CD, I've already heard one cut from it and will buy it. You can always depend on AC/DC for good hard driving adrenaline rock. It's one of my favorite bands to listen to in the gym.

Got Black Ice. I like it a lot. Is it as good as BIB? No. Is it as good as FTATR? Probably not. But it hasn't left my truck's player for over a week now.

That's quite a legacy for them to go up against Brian Johnson era wise - you have three solid albums in a row, Back In Black, For Those About To Rock and Flick The Switch and then they kind of sunk a bit but started to come back with some decent tunes on The Razor's Edge. Ballbreaker was a little bit better.

Stiff Upper Lip is outstanding.

Of course it will never be like Bon Scott. Brian Johnson had Scott's blessing though so it makes sense that they chose him.

I've not heard that story....Ducky...anyone....care to share?

I admit I want this new album, though I don't think I have heard anything from Ballbreaker.

But I did the same thing with Death Magnetic, love it, haven't heard the one released before it.

I guess I have a come and go (Kum 'n Go for Garry) relationship with all-out Rock.

Get the reissued Back In Black and you'll see it in print.

Get the new album. It's good. I'm listening to Ballbreaker right now - it's not nearly as good as Stiff Upper Lip or Black Ice.

But it's better then The Razor's Edge.
