How much do you know about Jimmy? There's probably something you don't know.

Take it Back

Post by Big W »

This song is one I think should get more attention than it gets.
It is about a sailboat race for the America's cup. The Aussies had come to the united States and won the cup!!!! The song has many delightful word sequences and I like it!
There is no lyrics list for this song. Perhaps one could be added sometime!
Best regards, Big W

It's in the BN Song Database, including lyrics. And welcome to BN.

Possibly one of the worst songs Buffett has ever done. Sounds like a really bad Christmas song.

For me it's sort of a "guilty pleasure"

How can you go wrong with lyrics like this:

We ask ourselves when we get in a fix-
what would POPEYE do in a tight spot like this?
He'd race for his true love and easily win it
in an old spinach can with a mast stuck in it!

It's one of my favorites too! (But what do I know, I like "I wish this Lunch.." and "You call it Joggin'" too.....)

We ain't stealin' we're just takin' back
Very simple plan of attack
It's our job and a labor of love
Take it home to the up above
We ain't stealin' we're just takin' back
Very simple statement of fact
Call it pillage or call it plunder
We're takin' it back from them boys down under

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but sometimes they have really good ideas…..

"I wish this lunch..." is also one of my favorites. Maybe we're just weird... unlike the rest of the Buffett universe.... :P

I like the song, but more because of the subject than the song itself. Purely based on song quality......not so much.

...and I love Lunch and hate Jogging.

I lived "I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever" during my first trip to Costa Rica in '99. We all ordered lobster and watched as someone from the kitchen emerged with a spear and snorkeling gear and jumped into the ocean to go hunt for our lunch. Our party retired with margaritas in hand to some hammocks out back and patiently waited for our lunch. That was three hours well spent that afternoon.

I also like "Take It Back" and remember when he performed it on The Tonight Show many moons ago.
