Staying Home 2008

Post by jimolliemom »

Okay, so I'm a little pi$$y about this year...

I wanted to go to MOTM...I've only missed one other year since I found me PH PHamily. I wanted to be moved home to Florida an it's be a day trip with Des...And I wanted to not be freezing my butt off in TN this morning...but NONE of this happened...

So, I thought I'd vent with the pHolks who understand me the most...

I'm miserable for the most part...so, is this my pitty party or my cheer me up thread??? Complain and moan with me or say something happy...your choice!

Dont get me started....its 37 degrees here on the North Coast of Ohio. I scraped my car windows a couple of mornings ago.

I am thinking about dropping everything and going down to Key West for the winter...living on the street on Duval couldnt be worse then this.

I'm with ya...I HATE Vermont's weather October thru April, it's politics, and high tax rates and fuel costs that make it hard to make a living. I'm counting the days til the 'keets are out of college and we can move to Florida only 10 years 10 months to go :(
This week I'm especially bummed....we got back from sun, sand and 80 degree weather Monday night to find snow flurries....UGH, I hate this place. If Mrs. C-Dawg ever questions my love for her all she has to do is remember she's the only reason I'm still in this awful place.

You are where you are.....find the GOOD in it and just enjoy the moment.....

Life is too short to lament where you think you SHOULD be......

It's cold here this morning......yep, that happens in the mountains....and YES, in a few weeks I will be b*tching about the snow....BUT right now, the fall colors are still glorious, the apples are crisp, the air smells so good, the leaves crunch under my feet, my dogs are extra snuggly, flannel sheets are the BOMB......overall, there may be other place I would want to try out, but right now this is HOME....and after all, isn't THAT what's important!

(PS...I've NEVER been to MOTM and who knows if I will.....but such is life)

It is called Winter, it happens every year. I moved from San Diego (beach bum for 22 years) to Boise, talk about "weather-shock", but the trade offs here way out number that weather.

My parents spend Febuary and March in Marco Island.

I have no desire to move to a warmer climate. I am one of those people who needs their seasons. I can't decorate a palm tree for Christmas or build a Sand Man instead of a Snow Man.

It was 38 degrees when I got in the car to leave for work this morning...burr

It was like 9 degrees here yesterday morning. I've lived in the cold all my damn life, and don't think I'll ever get used to it. But the wife won't let me move to Florida :D

Anyone who knows me here on BN knows I am generally a glass is half full kinda guy, and I live by the mantra "live for today, plan for tomorrow".
That said, where I make my home doesn't feel like home. I don't feel like I'm home til I'm on vacation, and it's a weird feeling to have 300+ days out of the year, that you don't belong. I'm a beachbum, most here ski. I could go on but I won't bore ya with details.
It's to the point I just got back from Tampa 36 hours ago, and am already looking at airfare to head back. Somehow I'll make it thru 10 more winters and then enjoy the rest of my life where I was meant to be. It's funny the things you do for love, huh?

Aw C-Dawg, I've never gotten the impression that you weren't a half full (not to be confused with half gone) kinda guy.......

Wishing you beaches in the future.....and if the last ten years of my life are any indication....well, it goes pretty effin' fast, so be careful not to wish it away.....but it will happen!

Saying where I make my home doesn't feel like home is EXACTLY right for me. I moved because I wanted to be where my Mom was happy, figuring I can make it anywhere...and I was WRONG. I am willing to admit that and move on...but I have to have that light at the end of the tunnel or I'd freak out.

I love this little TN town for what it is...a tiny TN town. But, I do not like cold, I do not like raking (I only had palm trees before) and both my children stay sick between the blooming things (Florida has blooming things but those didn't make them react like these do) and the fire places (every house here has one or 2 or more) they can not breathe here and that makes me upset and them in the hospital...one or the other...every year. Mollie was in for 6 days last December and she's been home from school twice since October 1st.

I know the North, or Northern parts from where I was, are beautiful. I will visit again when I'm gone. I am not knocking the place. But it's not for me. And with the market the way it is...I am sad about having to be here longer...that's all...

And Des is in KW with out me...

I understand, Jill......

I moved from NE Florida (Fernandina) to NW Florida (Panama City) to help take care of my elderly father...and be here for him, and yes, make him happy....

What I learned is I can't wait to get back to NE Florida....I've been here almost 2 yrs now, and haven't really put down any roots here...probably because I keep thinking of this as a temporary situation...Not sure why, exactly....

I miss my little island, where "Smiling eyes match the Smiling faces"...I miss Jags games...I miss FL/GA weekend.... I miss being ABLE to access the beach from any block ON the beach....I miss sitting downtown at the coffee shop and having any number of people stop by and have a cup with you....eventually needing 2 tables...
I miss weekly newspapers, and not much crime.....

But most of all...I miss my grown children. (Yes, even my son, for those that know me... )

I hear ya, Jill.....

I have a four foot long bassett hound that gives off a ton of body heat when she sleep between my wife and I. It's one of the things I look forward to about colder weather. If I work things out right, I can have my wife, two kids, and a hound dog in bed watching television on really cold nights.

Cold weather and winter in Chicago can go a bit long, sometimes you just have to look for the little things in life to make you happy.
