T.I.N.A. Tickets, Inc.

I apologize in adance for the length of this post.

A few weeks ago, I was searching the web for some football tickets to a sold out game that was this past weekend (I eventually found tix on ebay by the way). A Google search revealed a website for T.I.N.A. Tickets, Inc. Link here: http://www.tinatickets.com/

They have a very nice looking website full of guarantees and had a nice inventory. As I looked at the availability for the game I was looking for, I came across some tickets that I wanted to buy. They were more than face value, of course, but very reasonable considering the demand for this game. So, I selected the tickets. The first screen after selecting the tickets asked for my name, e-mail, address, and phone number. No problems so far.

Then, the next page asked for a payment method. The only option was a bank transfer. At this point, I started feeling uncomfortable, so I hit the back button (not the back button on my browser but the back button on their website that was next to the "continue" button). When I hit the back button, I got a screen that said my order was confirmed and to check for an e-mail shortly. :o

About 15 minutes later, an e-mail pops up with an invoice attached saying that payment is due in 3 days. In the e-mail, it gives me a routing number, bank account number, and bank location to which to make the bank transfer. It then says to fax them a copy of my bank receipt after the transfer is complete. Needless to say, I was very skeptical.

I tried calling the number on the website several times only to get a message that sounded like someone's personal voice mail that said, "The person you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please leave a message." I didn't bother with a message.

And, another funny thing: On their website, it says that they have a no cancellation policy. Exactly how can they have a no cancellation policy when the only thing they have on me is my name, e-mail, address, and phone number? They have no way of charging me. If I refuse to make this bank transfer, what are they going to do?

I did the only thing I knew to do: I sent an e-mail to the address on the website telling them that when I attempted to place an order, I saw that bank transfer was the only option. I told them that I was uneasy about that payment method, so I attempted to end the transaction by hitting "back" and that when I hit back, I got a confirmation. I told them that if they would accept a credit card, I'd be glad to honor my order (Knowing that on a CC, you have protection other than $50, I would have been willing to make that gamble). Otherwise, I would not be paying that invoice because I didn't feel comfortable with that payment method. I told them that I understood that they had a no cancellation policy but that it was a technical glitch with their website that caused my order to become finalized because as I mentioned, I hit the back button in an attempt to end the transaction the minute I realized that bank transfer was my only payment option.

That's been two weeks, and I've yet to hear from them. And, interestingly, when I go to the "Track Order" page on their site and enter my invoice number, my invoice still shows up as being due on Nov 2. I guess it will sit there forever!

I'm just curious: Has anyone had any experience with this company? Are they legit? Their website looks wonderful, and it's full of guarantees. But, my experience with them made me feel very uneasy for a number of reasons: bank transfer being the only payment method, an order being finalized that shouldn't have been, and then no one answering the phone and my call going to what sounded like a personal voice mail.

From Chris Farley in Tommy Boy:

'Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing too]

Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently] What's your point?

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of $hit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.'

I would also be very leary of doing business with them.

It's a scam. Their explanation of why they only accept bank transfers is BS. None of their tickets have row or seat numbers. This one is a no-brainer.

From their site:

NOTICE TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS!

We have stopped accepting credit cards and paypal as means of payment due to countless fraudulent orders placed by some very bad intentioned people on our website. Verifying all credit card orders would take too much time and that will eventually result in the deterioration of our customer support quality and delayed shipments to all our customers. Please note we currently accept only BANK WIRE TRANSFERS as a method of payment. A bank wire transfer is 100% traceable and secure for both our company and our customers and every order will be shipped within 24 hours after payment is confirmed by our bank.If you are not willing to pay for the tickets with a transfer from YOUR bank account to OUR bank account, please DO NOT place any order as we will not be able to deliver the tickets.

What a load of crap. Credit Cards are too difficult?!?! Why does every business in the world accept my credit card then? Definitely shady.

Now *that* phrasing smells highly of Nigerian English. That giant sucking sound you hear is your bank account being emptied and the contents shipped to someplace in Africa...

Thanks for all the replies. And, yes, that post that a couple of you found was from me. I posted that right at the time that this happened and got no replies. That was a board that I was regularly checking at the time looking for tickets. I had actually forgotten about my experience until I was going through my Inbox and found the e-mail. I was just very curious if anyone had any experience with them, so I posted here just for curiosity. The funny thing is that I did a google search at the time and found nothing. It looks like the Craig's List spam alert that blackjack posted came right after my experience, and the other result is my post.

I'm glad that my instincts stopped me when I saw bank transfer was the only option. I did not see what blackjack posted on their website, but when I saw that bank transfer was the only option, something told me to stop. It really floored me when I attempted to back out and got a confirmation! But, luckily with my name, address, e-mail, and phone number, I don't think they can do much!

I've bought hundreds of tickets on the Internet whether it be from brokers, on ebay, on Stubhub, razorgator, Internet message boards, etc. and never had a problem. On two occasions, I've bought tickets off the ticket exchange at this site, and both went very smooth. It's a real shame that people like the owners of Tina Tickets are out there giving something that most of the time goes smoothly a bad name.
