digitalprintman wrote:Pepe's does sound good for breakfast. But if I had one day to do breakfast in Key West, I would do Blue Heaven. A nice little bike ride or even a decent walk from the cruise ship pier. All items are great on Blue Heaven's menu. Our fav is Lobster Benedict with the Key Lime Hollandaise sauce. Add a slice of Betty’s Banana Bread. Great Bloody Marys there also. Go for the upgrade to Grey Goose vodka. If you drink coffee you will love the Baby's Coffee that they serve.

B.O.'s for lunch and then a short stroll to the Schooner Wharf and catch Michael McCloud. Check the website for a Buy One get One FREE Draft or Well Drink.

Have a Great Birthday!!!!
Okay, we are liking the Schooner Wharf for three reasons: drinks, music and drinks. <smile> Plus we understand that Jimmy's studio is within "spitting distance" Now we need advice on how to find Jimmy's old home on KW. What's the address and can we bike to it?
We aren't looking for too much food other than conch fritters. I have a tradition of eating conch fritters on every island that I have visited. The best so far were at The Wet Lizard in Belize. The last time in KW I found some near Mallory Square at a little cart/stand. They were good, but not the best.

castaway, not sure if you've done the Trails of Margaritaville Tour. It's now called Trails and Tales of Key West. If not, it is a fun walking tour with plenty of info on Jimmy and his time in Key West. Plenty of drink stops along the way. They start at Captain Tony's. The time listed on the website is for the people that are there for the entire day. They do also have an earlier tour geared to the cruise ship schedule, just give them a call. If I remember right it's Tim (it's been a few years) and he gives a great tour. Enjoy!!!!

:pirate: I'm also traveling to Key West for my birthday - the big 40. Where better for a pirate to turn 40 than in Key West? We'll be there the last weekend in January. My husband asked me the other day where I wanted to have my 40th birthday dinner and I told him I'm not sure yet. I'm leaning towards Blue Heaven for the morning after breakfast but I'm looking for ideas for dinner. I think I'm leaning more towards fun than fancy....Any suggestions?

My first thought for fun is the "Two Friends" Patio Restaurant, but there's probably a better idea. The Conch Republic is where Captain Tony had his 85th birthday bash.

We had a lot of fun at Kelly's, but it was more on the fancy side -- although it WAS outside.

We've rented a 3-house compound 1/2 block off of Duval, across from Fausto's, for my 40th. We bought plane tickets for 8 of our friends and the 10 of us are all spending the week there. 8)

What a fantastic birthday party that will be! Your friends will love you.

I'm rethinking my advice to sparty about Kelly's. It's not that fancy, and it's definitely a lot of fun... a perfect birthday dinner location.

Here, decide for yourself:

http://www.kellyskeywest.com/

It's Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill and Brewery, located in the birthplace of Pan Am Airways. It has a "Crash Bar" with a seaplane plunging through the ceiling.

It's named for the actress, Kelly McGillis from Top Gun, who owns it. Search shows lots of bad reviews and some good, but we had a very nice time, and the host was helpful in placing balloons and card I took there earlier in the day to surprise hubby.

FWIW, the last time I was at Kelly's I was unimpressed, but then again, I'm a beer snob.

Just be sure to ask what they mean by Resurrection Omelet and Dutch Omelet, if they're still on the menu.

Blue Heaven is a great venue for dinner as well as breakfast, but for a really special one go to Louie's Backyard - make sure you book a table.

I thought Kelly's was great and the atmosphere was fantastic also. BO's is awesome. I am partial to the chart room and schooners wharf. and if the guy is still there on Mallory Square selling conch fritters, they are the best on the island. also, stop by and say hi to pat croce for me.
