What should my first Little Feat album be?
I don't really know much about Little Feat, but I like their sound and I was planning on going and picking up a cd today and I wanted to see some suggestions of what I should get. Thanks

You're absolutely right but it is a good way to introduce someone IMHO . . .springparrot wrote:JTB is a fun cd, but it isn't really a LF cd.mjeischen wrote:Best of and Join the Band.
I can not stop listening to Join The Band . . .
The Parrot Dice Lounge kinda like a mirage. Here today and gone tomorrow. You should stop by and say hello when visiting Chicago on tour.

I'd agree with this. As much as I hate hearing certain songs (shush Mollymjeischen wrote:You're absolutely right but it is a good way to introduce someone IMHO . . .springparrot wrote:JTB is a fun cd, but it isn't really a LF cd.mjeischen wrote:Best of and Join the Band.

I think Waiting For Columbus is definitely up there as one of the greatest live albums ever made.
Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the 2002 CD re-release included all the songs from the vinyl release plus a bunch of out-takes... Didn't the original CD chop 2 tracks from the vinyl so it could "fit" on a CD?

Waiting for Columbus is a must in the Feat collection. You're right about the 2 cd versions.gingerbreadman wrote:I think Waiting For Columbus is definitely up there as one of the greatest live albums ever made.

I can not stop listening to Join The Band . . .) at shows...you need them to pull people deeper into the band's catalog. Or at least try to pull them in.
Won't you be my Dixie Chicken.....

Post Lowell George Little Feat isn't bad but they're just not the same without Lowell and never will be. He was a vital force in that band and can never be replaced. That said, I second the commotion over the deluxe edition of Waitin' For Columbus. I also highly recommend any of the Lowell-era studio albums as well as the Hot Cakes & Outtakes box set which compiles material from both eras of the band and also includes some rare pre-Little Feat solo work from Lowell that makes it well worth the purchase.

You really need to devide Little Feat up into the 2 era's and go from there. The best from the Lowell George era would be Feats Don't Fail Me Now and then Dixie Chicken. The best from the post Lowell period would be Let It Roll and if you can find it the CD Ain't Had Enough Fun. Ain't Had Enough Fun came out in 95 and the record company that put it out I think folded not long after and it's currently out of print. Every now and then you see a copy at used Cd stores or flea markets. The current edition of Little Feat has a lot of good live CD's available and after you become more familar with them you might want to check some of them out.

Been a Feats fan since high school, and no way would I introduce someone to them by playing Join the Band!! I love that cd, but like Molly says, it ain't really Feat.

Join the Band is a great disc for newbies. It's a fun, easy listen. Fans of bands tend to get a bit snobbish when recommending a sample...as I scoff at those who only know Jimmy from the Yellow Album. The fact remains, you get a great sense of the artist(s), and can later appreciate the more traditional stuff.

Not that it's a bad album but I strongly suggest avoiding Join the Band as an introduction to Little Feat. With all due respect, at least get one of the albums that had Lowell George on it. They're still good without him but Lowell was the heart, soul and true spirit of Little Feat. To get a true feel of what they were all about the Lowell era albums are the place to start.
