X-Mas music

Post by moeron »

The store that I am working at has for the last 3 weeks been playing X-Mas music. I have been listening to it, and its driving me crazy!!!

The songs repeat about every 3-4 hours. The only song that I don't mind hearing is "Christmas Island" Song by Jimmy. Some of the other crap is just like fingers on a chalk board.

Then about every 2-3 minutes they have their store comercial.

Then 1 day after x-mas, they go back to the regular songs.

Would this bother You, or am I being a grinch?

You're being a Grinch. I love good Christmas music, especially the classics by Elvis, Nat, Burl, Perry, etc.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this. I've been called a grinch for the past 3 weeks because I don't like the Christmas Creep and think that Christmas Songs should only be played on the radio between Black Friday and December 30th (at the latest).

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I missed the part about them having started on Nov. 1. Christmas music should start the day after Thanksgiving.

Years ago, my sister worked at a department store during the holiday season. That year, the store was pushing cute little stuffed Santas that "sang" a variety of carols. Each counter was required to keep a couple in their areas and keep them singing. Needless to say, by Christmas day, my sister was FED UP with the damn Santa singer. Christmas morning she decreed NO CAROLS!!! Being the loving family we are, we complied and let her open her gifts first. Five of us had each bought her a singing Santas! T'was a lovely day. hehehe

I was raised Jewish. I'm *still* not Christian. I really dislike Christmas music. It's yet another good reason to stay out of the malls between Thanksgiving and New Years.

I would like to take the people who really love Xmas music and put them in a room and play nothing but Hannukah and Solstice music at them for a couple of days, and see how they like it. Maybe throw in a couple of chants for Quan Yin for good measure. I think that other people should be able to listen to whatever they want; I just don't enjoy being forced to listen to some of it. It's the musical equivalent of secondhand smoke.

Fortunately, at our shop they play a very interesting variety of Christmas music on the livestream.....and they've really just started playing it!

Twisted Sister's "Oh Come All Ye Faithful"
Whirling Dervishes "Mr. Grinch"
Brian Stetzer Orchestra
David Bowie/Bing Crosby

and they're mixed in with "regular" videos, too......so we never get really tired of it......

If I had to listen to Christmas Muzak.....UGH.....

I'm not a Christian or any other religion. X-mas music should not be played until mid December, not the day after Thanksgiving. That's a solid month basically of the same songs over and over and over (I have a similar problem with Carnival time music in New Orleans - hear the same damn songs over and over and over, makes me happy Mardi Gras finally arrives so Carnival is over and those songs are GONE). And for what? To get people to buy more presents? To celebrate the so called birth of someone that nobody even knows existed yet alone certainly was not born December 25th.

It's all blown way out of proportion of something that never had any.

That being said...I do like some of the music. Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, some others - those are excellent. But I never have been able to figure out why Frosty The Snowman is an x-mas time album, along with Jingle Bells and some of the other non-xmas tunes...that are more along the lines of WINTER tunes...and why would anyone want a parasite in their house?

I liked Jimmy's album to a degree - the title track is really good (as is the original version). Merry X-mas Alabama is decent but overall way too sappy. A Sailor's X-mas is decent, although the 'Jesus was a fisherman' line is a bit lost on me - it's the sign of the fish that has been twisted all out of context. It could be any sign, it just so happens to be the age of the fish sign. That will be over somewhat soon.

But I have lost my Christmas Island LP. And I've never been motivated to buy another one.
