Could be worse. Waited for an hour after the show next to the bus trying to get an autograph. Manager came out & said he couldn't do any more as they were already pushing their flight time.
Will post later when I'm not at work, but the short report is.....for an 86 yo diabetic, he ain't lost much. Voice is still there, Lucille still sings as sweet as ever.
BB KING IS A MUST SEE!!

I've wanted to see Mr King for a very long time. He was in the area early this year, but I wasn't able to make that show. I found out about this one a few weeks ago. The Maryland Theater is a fairly small venue, and there really aren't any BAD seats. I wasn't going to go, as money wasn't all that great BEFORE the wife went out on Black Friday. Was kind of curious on Monday afternoon, as i know that sometimes tickets will drop late in the day. Saw the 4th row seat & started cussing. Wife asked me if A) the money was in the bank (yes) and B) Was it earmarked for something else (yes). We could manage, so she said "it's a once in a lifetime shot, go ahead." (I certainly hope not, I wanna go again!!!)
The band: tight!!!! They came out after the warm up guy (Need to find his name, he was pretty good) and played two numbers. They've been doing this a while. Then they introduced the Man. He had a couple of his guys walk out with him to a chair set up in the center of the stage. He got settled, and away we went.
I was wrong....he's 83. He hasn't, however, lost much if any of the voice or the guitar playing. Maybe a little off of the high end, but the growl is still there......as is the sweetness. Lots of talking, stories, and jokes. He was really enjoying himself....it was obvious. I know the jokes & stories don't change a lot from city to city, but he and the band definitely seemed to be having a good time. The sound was done well. Loud, but not obnoxiously so. I usually wear earplugs...especially that close...but I didn't last night. Just a well done, PROFESSIONAL production. (of course, after 60+ years, you'd think they'd have it pretty well down by now)
I can say that I REALLY hope he comes back this way again. If you have the chance to see him, take it. He's one of the few links to the original Blues we have left that are still actively playing. I know some people would debate how 'blues' he really is, but the fact remains that he's earned his title of 'King of the Blues.'

That's great.
He showed up at his club on Beale Street (in Memphis) one night when I was there several years ago.
Of course, I couldn't get anywhere NEAR close to him, but it was still nice to see him in person.
I'm glad you were able to see him that close.

Cool picture - we saw him Sunday night at the opening of the DPAC
http://www.dpacnc.com/ - cool venue but
a few logistic things yet to resolve and our seats were not nearly as good as yours - but as always a good show.
Days like this make me miss the Chicago Blues scene.
Thanks for the updates and details!!!!!

Yeah, great show in Durham NC on Sunday! $6 for an imported beer, and $3 for a bottled water... not priceless...
But up in the Grand Tier it was hard to see BB's facial expressions... If ya squinted ya could see those big eyes and eye-lids going up and down tho!
Yes he said many times that he was 83... Hope to see him again "when he's 84"... isn't there a song about that???

Sucks you couldn't see his face. The looks he gives during his stories are hysterical!!!
All things considered, I think that is the #1 show I've ever been to. The artist, the band, the venue, the seat location.....all things added up I figure this is the one I'll remember most fondly.
(now if we could just tailgate beforehand!!!!!!!!

)
