Live Nation ticketing begins 1/1/09. Its not fun !!!!
As mentioned in the past on a few threads, Live Nation will be taking over ticket sales for any shows that live nation sponsors or any live nation venues on January 1, 2009. Also, Blockbuster will be the place to go if you do not use a phone or internet to buy tickets. Also, Blockbuster stores will be given an allocated amount of tickets that will be seperate from the ones that are sold on the phone and internet. It is going to be interesting to see how this works
There are some venues already using the new ticketing system (see link below for one of them). I would recommend that you sign up (just like you do on TM) and get use to the system. If you already have signed up on live nation in the past, you will need to sign up again. This is different than those other signups.
It will be very interested to see how the system takes all the traffic when the summer concerts start to show up. I know that all the shows I go to at Great Woods (Comcast Center) will not be on ticketmaster anymore.

Here was the E-mail I received last week:
Starting January 1, 2009, all tickets for concerts and events produced by Live Nation and presented at Live Nation Venues will be available for online purchase exclusively through LiveNation.com.
You can also buy your tickets via venue box offices*, participating Blockbuster stores, and Live Nation ticketing phone numbers. Please visit LiveNation.com to learn about upcoming show information for your favorite artists!

Update: Jan 30th
Well my first experience with live nation on sale for a popular show has proven to me that they should go back and sign a contracat with ticketmaster to sell tickets.
They cannot handle the volume. It errors out and if you get through you cannot finish the sale.
Its is going to get UGLY.
Get Ready to get frustrated. If you got tickets last year on TM, there is a very good chance you may not this year.

I guess the good news for this is that LN doesn't really have a "convenience fee"?
That said I did sign up for LiveNation... That's the ONLY way I managed to get a ticket to Alpine last year... The seats at TicketMaster were already gone...

I wonder who these people are that, in 2009, will go to Blockbuster for their tickets... "if you do not use a phone or internet to buy"... And, I also wonder how they will get to Blockbuster or the venue... horse and buggy?

It may be one of those things where some of us go online and some try to go to the local Blockbuster just to have extra bases covered. And just when i had TM down to a science!gingerbreadman wrote:Ain't that the truth!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Scaaaary....

This is not a good sign, it took me a good 10 minutes to sign up, it kept coming back and asking for info I had already entered. GAH!!!!

This is confusing...did they just wipe out all previous LN registrations?Steele1161 wrote:If you already have signed up on live nation in the past, you will need to sign up again. This is different than those other signups.
I re-registered anyway.

Here is another article on Live Nation selling tickets
http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles ... ket_sales/
Let's get over this false notion that the fan pays $75 for a ticket and then $25 in fees," says Hubbard. "The fan looks at it as a $100 transaction, so let's present it that way. We're moving to a single fee upfront, and if the experience is worth that price the fan will decide."
In other words, service charges will appear as one lump sum rather than as a series of variable fees. And in a long-overdue reversal of what many consider the most egregious extra, Live Nation ticket buyers won't be charged to print their tickets at home.
Blockbuster will be the exclusive retail outlet for Live Nation Ticketing, with 500 stores nationwide and 10 in Massachusetts selling concert tickets, including locations in Boston, Quincy, Natick, Worcester, and Chicopee. Special blocks of seats will be available at stores during the first four hours of sales, leveling the purchasing field for retail customers who are often squeezed out by online customers. While physical sales make up only 10 percent of overall ticket sales - and even less in Boston, where more consumers than average shop online - Hubbard says that partnering with Blockbuster makes sense on a number of levels.

Anyone have info on how to find a participating Blockbuster location? I couldn't find anything on Blockbuster's site... but maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.

Thanks, Penny! But I still haven't found indicators on the store locators... I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to drive a bit and do some good old-fashioned pre-Internet camping out in an attempt to get my paws on a pair of tix in the "exclusive block."Under the agreement, Live Nation will sell its retail tickets exclusively through approximately 500 Blockbuster company-owned stores in strategically chosen markets across the country that mirror Live Nation's concert venue platform footprint, providing music fans with a convenient and familiar outlet to purchase the more than one million tickets Live Nation sells to its concerts through retail locations annually.
The selected stores will offer exclusive blocks of tickets available only at BLOCKBUSTER during the first four hours of ticket sales, as well as general ticketing as long as supplies last. Blockbuster will be responsible for managing and operating all aspects of the ticket transactional experience.
Each show I've gotten closer and closer to the stage!!!

I'd bet good money they'll use some kind of a lottery system that will negate camping out. And I agree with the earlier post that says this system of selling blocks of tickets at Blockbuster locations will actually benefit the scalpers. All they have to do is round up twenty or thirty (or more) kids, pay them a few bucks apiece to stand in line, and they have a corner on the tickets in that location and walk away with big bucks even after paying the kids. 'Course, last year saw scalpers eating a lot of JB tickets and I certainly hope to see that trend continue....SkoolGrl<3 wrote:I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to drive a bit and do some good old-fashioned pre-Internet camping out in an attempt to get my paws on a pair of tix in the "exclusive block."

With the tix for the NC shows going on sale this week, I've got my game plan...
calling local Blockbuster locations to find out which is a ticket retailer, update my Live Nation account, figure out if I have anything to throw on eBay to make up for the deficit in my Buffett show funds under my mattress...

I FOUND AN ANSWER ON LIVENATION... A late Festivus miracle if you ask me!
Question: How can I find a retail outlet or store selling tickets?
Answer
Starting Monday, 1/26/09 you can utilize our Retail Outlet Locater on Livenation.com to find your nearest location. Live Nation’s retail outlets are walk-up services only – you cannot call your local retail outlet to purchase tickets. Questions regarding online, phone, or Box Office sales should be directed to the point of purchase you intend to use.

I'm wondering how this is going to pan out with Blockbuster being the in-person ticket retailer. And why does the 'allotment' statement worry me?

Is it just me or does livenation not like internet explorer?
I've been trying to make an account, and the site freezes up.
