I read that book by Hubbard in the early 80's. I didn't know anything at ALL about scientology. I only got halfway through the book and thought to myself, "This guy is absolutely NUTS" and threw it away. He's freaky, I don't know how all the followers get sucked in. :o [smilie=shake.gif] [smilie=paranoid.gif]

"Battlefield Earth" is a pretty decent sci-fi book. Read it before I really knew anything about scientology, so if there was a hidden message, I didn't get it.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.

I have to give my two cents.

I am curious about all religions but only follow one - and I follow in my heart, mind and soul - I don't preach it, I do not believe I have to go to any church to be a part of it and I do believe someone else can tell me what I can and cannot do because of it.

I have heard a while back about Scientology - all followers have $$$$ and there is a belief about UFOs and crazy things like that (not that I don't believe there is another planet with life out there or they walk among us! I have been to NYC [smilie=battingeyes.gif] )...any one else hear about the money thing...I have to go walk the dog, not to mention too nice to be inside ... SUNNY and beautiful outside! tootles

That is the only book that my mother freaked out on. She was a very "Christian" woman but also very open to anytime I had interest and study in alternative forms of religion or thought and when she freaked over me bringing it home to read I got rid of it. She rarely freaked out so the fact she did told me a lot.

As a kid - I started hanging out with a girl in school that was in a "weird religion". As a kid, I obv didnt recognise it - butmy mother quickly started to notice some changes and stopped me hanging out with this girl (we were a anglican church going family) - upon reflection as a adult- they were all wackjobs ....

They prey on the vulnerable ..... my father got sucked in to one for a while with his second wife. They took a lot of his money - it was at a time he was at the peak of his alcoholism and drug addictions - praying on the vulnerable.

Just looking at Tom Cruise ..... he is a wackjob. Dont know when John Travolta got in to it - but maybe he was vulnerable at some time - say when he son was diagnosed with a illness?

I just have this belief that most people get dragged in to these things when they are very vulnerable and looking for help.

I once encountered a guy that had been at Mount Carmel with Koresh (he left before the seige) so I understand the lure that can occur.

What I can't understand is the possibility of having a child that has a condition that medicines can control or alleviate and not utilizing the use of that drug because of my religion. If I were to make the decision to follow my religion and something happened to my child I would be haunted with the "what ifs".

TMZ is trying to put a spin on the amount of time that passed from when Jett was last seen and then what time he was found. :-?

Info on Kawaski's Disease or Syndrome can easily be found by Googling. Apparently children usually outgrow the disease/syndrome but have other problems related to the effects of the disease/syndrome thoughout their liffe.

People wanting information on the way others decide to treat or not medically treat their children or themselves, is a complicated issue.
For example when parents seek a physician to dope their child up or parents seek another physcician.
Does one have the right to say much about those beliefs and forcibly change them?

There are people out there such as Bill Maher that have a problem with modern medicine. Prescribe one drug, and then another or perhaps more drugs to counter the first one's side effects or whatever.

Some people totally believe in a deity or what have you, to keep them or their children safe. Who can prove that their beliefs are wrong or are correct? Miracles happen every day in modern medicine. Doctors have no real scientific explanation.

As for what any of this has to do with the Church of Scientology, I am not sure.

John Travolta raised his child as he best saw fit. Anyone with a problem with that should take it up with John Travolta. Apparently John Travolta did see improvement in his son, in whatever means were provided by the CoS. Perhaps he may have seen more improvement with other means. That is up to John Travolta and his family to live with. Sometimes the obvious answer is not always the right one for everyone.

John Travolta's son was known for having seizures. It is not clear at the moment what actually killed him. I have no doubt, John Travolta loved his son and would had made sure, the best medical care available was provided for him.

As for the CoS or any other so called church, to each their own. How can one possibly force change on such beliefs? Take the child or loved one away and make them a ward of the court perhaps?

Those who can, actually do, those who can't, continue to prove their ignorance.

you remind me of someone that used to post here.

As far as what the what the church has to do with"it". The Church of Scientology is known to be against psychiatry and the meds. Some of the meds that can treat seizures can fall into the category of psych meds. Thus my question - is the church against anti seizure medicine as well? I don't believe one thing has been said that is critical of Travolta's beliefs nor has anyone but you raised the thought of forcing one belief system on another and certainly not removing a child from a home. I'm not sure where you got the idea that anyone was even suggesting such a thing.
