If any of you kind Cardinal fans or others who have visited STL wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts on where we should go (nightlife, etc) I'd really appreciate it. I can't wait! Thanks in advance.

...and yes, we are planning to visit the famous arch, as well as, some brewery they've got down there
My wife and I travel down to the Lou for a game every year, we stay most of the week with my relatives there but always stay one night at the Melenium Hotel right across from the arch "its the circular hotel with the revolving restauraunt on top" You can go down to McGills Landing they have all sorts of restauraunts and bars there along with the river boat casino. Also just down the road is Union Station with lots of shops and some good places to eat. You can do romantic horse and buggie rides too that they offer through down town. Its a very good way to get from place to place at night as some of the side streets can get kinda sketchy at night. But there is tons of stuff to keep you busy. Also check out Mike Shanans Bar after the game, you will often see players hangin out there.

Looks like 2B Brian Roberts will stay with the Orioles:
http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/news/a ... p&c_id=bal

Overall, as a fan I'm happy that BRob is staying. He is probably the O's most valuable "trade piece", but the team has no one in the minors ready to take over second base. In today's market, the club most likely overpaid him for 4 years taking him to age 35, but his is great leadoff hitter, good glove, and still an excellent base stealer.

I can keep my Roberts jersey for a while........ :o :D

Braves Sign OF Garret Anderson:

At age 36 I can't help but think Anderson would be better as a DH in the AL, but I guess you go where the job is....... :o

Spring training games have started..........another sure sign that Summer is on the way! [smilie=coolup.gif]

I must admit that I still don't get the whole reason for World Baseball Classic......because of that series spring training is long this year... :o

The first game in the Mets' new stadium is going to be a college game, St. John's and Georgetown on Sunday March 29. St. John's is one of the many schools I went to. I got an email yesterday saying that since I'm a regular donor to the annual fund I qualify for a complimentary ticket to the game. There are a limited number of tickets, they didn't say how many, but I wrote back and said I'd like one. Maybe I can get my one game at the new stadium out of the way without having to pay inflated ticket prices.

This whole "Manny thing" is getting real old:

Another case of a player with so much God-given talent and no respect for the game or his team, just himself....... :o

Can someone explain how the World Baseball Classic came into being?

I think it is an interesting competition, but, in my opinion, hinders major league teams as they prepare for the regular season. USA TODAY last week had a great article on how many big league pitchers stats have tanked in the regular season immediately after their participation in the WBC. The article spoke of how these pitchers were forced into longer, more competitive outings too early in the season.

That's why I'm going to Phoenix in 2 weeks, when this WBC is wrapped up.

I'm concerned that Jake Peavy is throwing too much, too early.
He says he's learned lessons from 3 years ago, where he threw his arm out by the following May,
but competitive guys are competitive guys  and I sure hope he can keep it reigned in

Citi Field sold out in 15 minutes for the St. Johns game. I tried, but missed out on tickets. I was lucky enough to get tickets for the 2 Mets vs. Red Sox pre-season games. Like you, I just wanted to get in on the cheap. Go Mets! :pirate:

So....the last game in "old" Yankmee stadium got a 7-hour pregame show from ESPN.
The last game in Shea got mentioned briefly.
The excuse for the discrepancy was the "historical differences" between the two.

So...that must mean that the pre-game shows for the Yanks and the Mets home openers this year will be treated with equal regard? There is no history behind either...and the Mets have just as good (or better) of a chance to reach the playoffs this year.

My prediction? About 5 hours for the Yanks. The Mets are the 2nd or 3rd story on SportsCenter that night....

Just so he doesn't wear himself out so much that he is ineffective after he is traded to the Brewers in mid July....

Nah, the Mets Home Opener will get billing on Sportscenter. Hell, even the Nationals new park got top billing on SC last year...for a day.

Report: Substances found on Clemens materials
7 hours, 32 minutes ago

(AP)—Federal authorities have found performance-enhancing substances on the materials Brian McNamee said he used to inject Roger Clemens, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

McNamee turned over the syringes, vials and gauze pads to federal investigators last year, after he told baseball investigator George Mitchell he injected the pitcher with steroids and human growth hormone. The Washington Post reported Feb. 6 that tests linked Clemens’ DNA to blood in the syringes given to investigators by McNamee.

Clemens has said repeatedly that McNamee, his former personal trainer, injected him with B-12 and the painkiller lidocaine.

“I assumed, and I am not surprised, that the tests were positive for both DNA and for performance-enhancing drugs, because that’s what Brian said all along, and there’s not much doubt that Brian’s been telling the truth,” McNamee’s lawyer, Richard Emery, told The Associated Press. “The confirmation of that fact, once again, just seems to me to be another significant step towards jail for Clemens.”

A federal grand jury in Washington is investigating whether Clemens lied when he told a congressional committee last year that he didn’t use illegal performance-enhancing substances. McNamee, testifying before the same committee, said he repeatedly injected Clemens with steroids and HGH.

Rusty Hardin, Clemens’ lawyer, did not return a telephone call seeking comment.
