Any Miles Davis fans out there?

I just got my first copy of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue."
I know. I know. Way overdue for someone who's supposed to be an arts editor. I've had "Sketches of Spain" for years, and tried to like it, but there were just too many notes and not enough melody.
"Blue" is a horse of a completely different color, no pun intended.
I've only been through the six tunes, recorded in 1959, once - but I am blown slap away. This is some beautiful stuff.
In the liner notes, NYT critic Robert Palmer said that Duane Allman (The Allman Brothers Band) told him he had spent a couple of
YEARS listening to "Blue."
Just wondering if anyone else out here in BuffettNews land has a copy of "Kind of Blue" -- and what they think of it.
Thanks!

don't have Kind of Blue, however I do have The Complete Birth of the Cool and it displays the new direction he took in the so-called "cool" arrangements from his earlier work with "bop" and, for me, he defines the trumpet with "cool" as Dizzy did with "bop" and Satchmo did with dixieland

Thanks, oph. I've got Davis on several compilation CDs, and "Sketches of Spain," but never heard him like THIS ...

I have had copies of 'Kind of Blue' for decades - great album, probably his best pre-electronic work
I still consider 'Bitches Brew' to be his most important album, but it was issued about 10 years after 'Kind of Blue' and his style was much edgier by then.
The keyboard player on 'Bitches Brew' was Joe Zawinul, who later formed the group Weather Report, and put out one of my two personal all-time favorite Jazz albums; Heavy Weather
(My other favorite is the Dave Brubeck classic, 'Take Five')

I think the edginess is what I didn't like ... "Kind of Blue" makes sense to me. I was listening to it on the way home tonight and had a real breakthrough re: themes on a chord. I *finally* get it ....
Now, I have to listen to it about 200 more times and maybe then I'll be ready for "Bitches Brew."
Brubeck's "Take Five" was one of my very first exposures to the world of jazz.

Saw him live MANY years ago at Fiddlers Green for a "Jazz Fest".. was great.

I'm just not a purchaser of music much these days.

have it, love it, and yeah, could listen to it once a week until the day I die, and find something new every time.

It's hard for me to believe I didn't GET the whole improv thing before. I wish I had this CD, as there are fewer notes and the transitions are so smooth and they make sense.
I've always had the later stuff...with the thousands of notes, most of them disconcordant, and my head swimming trying to keep up with it all.
In "Kind of Blue," I had actually anticipate what's coming ... it's been a real relevation for me.

I'm hoping that "Kind of Blue" will help me appreciate "Sketches" more.
