Re: Plane crashes into Hudson river
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown says the US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport enroute to Charlotte, N.C., when the crash occurred in the river near 48th Street in midtown Manhattan.
Brown says the plane, an Airbus 320, appears to have hit one or more birds.
A law enforcement official said that authorities are not aware of any deaths and that the passengers do not appear to be seriously injured.

Again they are saying 'ALL' passengers got off safely, but being treated for hypothermia.

Excellent job Captain and crew. Ditching with all engines failed is not a maneuver a pilot gets to practice.

Knowing the issues USAirways has had with their pilots and equipment, I think it's a damb miracle that all survived. Kudos to the crew for making the best possible choice and believing in their ability to get the best possible result for the worst possible situation. Some guardian angels were definitely working overtime today.Crazy Navy Flyer wrote:Excellent job Captain and crew. Ditching with all engines failed is not a maneuver a pilot gets to practice.

Been listening/ watching the news coverage. AMAZING job the pilot and crew did. And kudos to all the rescue personnel who were on the scene in a matter of minutes.

Re: Plane crashes into Hudson river
The local radio station here in Charlotte is taking calls from people about the crash and a young (teen sounding) girl called and said her best friends mother was on the flight. She and her best friend were together when they heard about the flight going down so the girl called her mom and her mom actually answered her cell phone while on the rescue raft or while waiting for the raft!

Re: Plane crashes into Hudson river
from CNN with more information about the pilot in the article.
"He has been a pilot with US Airways since 1980, following seven years in the U.S. Air Force.
His resume -- posted on the Web site for his safety consulting firm, Safety Reliability Methods, Inc. -- lists piloting procedures, technical safety strategies, emergency management and operations improvement, as areas of industry expertise."
