Do you swear? (Warning - Swearing Included)

I'm feeling controversial today and this is a question I've had for a long time.

It's obvious that Jimmy Buffett loves to swear.

I've noticed that many of my fellow BN'ers don't like it when other BN'ers use bad words in their posts. I've seen a couple of examples over the last few years wherein someone will throw a contextually appropriate "damn", or a "hell" or worse into the post, and it seems to bother some of the others. Why is that, do you think? Jimmy uses all manner of foul language in his songs, and the language in his books have no limit! Hell... (oops) Tully Mars got laid in two different Jimmy Buffett books!
Jimmy Buffett on his Banana Wind Album wrote:Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, hell, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then
Every now and then
Jimmy Buffett in 'Everybody's On The Phone' wrote:We act like crazy people
Talking to ourselves
Crashing cars for conversation
Still that s***flies off the shelf
The information superhighway's crawling like an LA traffic jam
Jimmy Buffett in 'Why Don't We Get Drunk' wrote:Why don’t we get drunk and screw
I just bought a water bed, it’s filled up for me and you
They say you are a snuff queen
Honey I don’t think that’s true
So, why don’t we get drunk and screw.
Personally, I like to swear. I do it all the time. Not in a vulgar, ribald way; but rather in a way to add some color and flourish to my day-to-day language. I rarely use the F-word. I say s*** less often; but I use hell and damn daily.

What about your swearing habits? Do you swear?

Working in construction it's not the content of your vocabulary that helps you with communication, it's the volume and use of profanity that gets the point across. This is disturbing to me. There's part of our society where we've really "dumbed down" I think that's pretty f**** up

I generally don't swear...especially the "F" word and NEVER in front of my child. (though I'll occasionally say "DamB", I usually say "Darn" now.)
I used to swear more, cuz I grew up around it, but decided that most of the time I can express myself with other words.
I've found my vocabulary skills have improved.

I love to swear. That is how I express myself.

I work in profranity the way other artists work in clay or oils.

I just previewed a post with George Carlin's 7 words you can't say on TV. In the order Carlin uses them, the last three got through the BN naughty word filter. I'm actually surprised by that.

It doesn't bother me at all in adult conversation. That being said I won't swear in front of my kids. As Dez said it makes you improve your vocabulary.

Reminds me of talking to my son about using bad words.

He picked up "what the hell" from his grandmother. Thaaaaaat didn't go over so well at preschool.

He asked me yesterday if "heaven's sake" was a bad word.

I told him, "Hell no!"

I reserve "aggressive swearing" for times when I need to totally assert myself,
but in most company, I would be laughed at, since said swearing is very tame.
I was raised by a woman who didn't mind much about what was done in movies,
but the repeated use of the word "bullsh!t" in Love Story ruined it for her.

I can actually remember the exact moment I first swore spontaneously... how sad is that? [smilie=grrrrrr.gif]
