Re: Chiropractors?
I have had occasional lower back troubles for years.
I have found that a good chiropractor can ease the pain quicker than the really good pain drugs prescribed by an MD

Haven't been to one in years, but when I did, it helped a lot, and I enjoyed it.

Re: Chiropractors?
I always had given them a bad rap as a group. When I started having so much neck problems and muscle spasms a few years ago, I went to one, and did my best to have an open mind. I had to watch a video when I got there, about the wonders of chiropractic care. I was sort of buying into it until they said the chiropractic care could cure bed wetting. That's where they lost me. I was very frank with the doctor after watching the video, and we agreed that chiropractic was not for me. The good news is that he referred me to a pain specialist who uses joint injections and soft tissue massage and has absolutely been my life saver.

Re: Chiropractors?
Several years ago I was crossing the street and got hit by a car. The driver had stopped at the light and was turning right into traffic but unfortunately did not look right before turning. I was not hurt much because I jumped on the hood of the car. I went to a chiropractor for about 1 1/2 months after that and it really helped. Getting a massage after the adjustment left me completely relaxed, loose and feeling awesome!!!

Just curious, connie-do you think it was the spinal adjustment or the massage that helped more?

Re: Chiropractors?
Would you believe I get chiropractic adjustments sometimes to help with cramps? There is one certain spot he pushes and it works better than anything, immediately. I thought he was crazy when he first told me he could help with that.phjrsaunt wrote:I always had given them a bad rap as a group. Re: Chiropractors?
I didn't get a massage until several adjustments had passed so I can honestly say they helped. I had a stiff neck (not whiplash) and this popping going on when I turned my head to either side. After a few adjustments the stiffness and the popping was gone. The massage was just icing on the cake!!phjrsaunt wrote:ph4ever wrote:Several years ago I was crossing the street and got hit by a car. Re: Chiropractors?
A "previous relationship" went to a chiropractor (can't remember what for-it was a looooooong time ago) he came home and broke into a fever that lasted for two days. I swear I thought he was going to die, but he wouldn't let me take him to the hospital. He surived the fever. Not sure what happened to him after that-that's about when we parted ways, but I'll never forget that whole fever incident. It was insane!

Re: Chiropractors?
oh Auntie - I was also skeptical about the whole thing at first but my attorney insisted that I try their chiropractor first and then if that didn't help they had a orthopedic I would have seen next

I'm far from an expert, but I do recall 'toxins' being released in the body with both chiropractic and massage treatments.phjrsaunt wrote:A "previous relationship" went to a chiropractor (can't remember what for-it was a looooooong time ago) he came home and broke into a fever that lasted for two days. Re: Chiropractors?
thanks for the feedback connie. I'm still skeptical, but I'll count that as a point in favor of chiropractic care. ![cheeky-grin [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif]](./images/smilies/cheeky-grin.gif)
Re: Chiropractors?
I went to one for quite a while to deal with neck and TMJ issues. Here's my thoughts:
First of all, there are chiropractors that feel they can cure allergies, cramps, etc through chiropractic care, and many who do not. I tend to favor the latter though the one I saw thought she could cure everything. I checked with people I trusted before seeing this person, and made sure to see one that had significant experience in dealing with the issues I had.
For me, the relief was good, but very temporary and so I stopped going for the above mentioned issues. But occasionally I would have a hip or back issue that she could take care on in a single adjustment. And, I am forever appreciative that it was the chiropractor who determined that seeing a podiatrist for orthotics could and would make a difference with my neck and TMJ.
Choose carefully, especially if they are working on your neck as the repercussions of someone less than skilled are quite serious.

Re: Chiropractors?
Be careful if they claim to be able to cure all. I would more likely consult an osteopathic physician that has had 4 years of medical school with appropriate study in anatomy and physiology and significant training in muscle and bone adjustments. There is no doubt in my mind that they can do a great amount of good, even though I've spent all my adult life working in "traditional" or allopathic medicine.

Re: Chiropractors?
thanks for the feedback....
(((((flock))))) sorry to hear about your buddy
my neurologist suggested i see one for the neck spasms, migraines and some other issues i have going on in my back. i was getting botox in my neck for the pain in houston but that made me sick a couple of weeks after the injections. (but i had the smoothest neck in town)
the one i went to today for a consult has been in CS since the late 80s. she has an awesome reputation and works with my neuro for pain management. she also does acupuncture - which is what i claim gave me relief from the chronic migraines i had in grad school. i'm cool with the acupuncture but just a little worried about the adjustments.
keep the comments coming....

If you do acupuncture again - please be sure the needles used are disposable because of the transmission of diseases such as HCV.
I think it's awesome you're going to one recommended by a neurologist. Many times MD's will not have a thing to do with a chiropractor.
And Flock - I'm sorry about your friend too.

Re: Chiropractors?
I thought the same thing, Connie. MDs and chiropractors don't always work well together, they're on different sides of "medicine." That says a lot about both your docs, (((Janice))).ph4ever wrote: I think it's awesome you're going to one recommended by a neurologist.
