Stayed at The Royal like Caly did. Verrry nice resort. Playa is a great little town. Strolled it most every day. Know nothing about your resort.
My tip is to check out http://www.playa.info

This site has message boards for ALL the resorts as well as anything you'll need to know. I used it to get snorkel/lunch cruise information with discounts....plus you can meet other folks who'll be there when you are so you can have EXTRA people celebrating your B-Day in style!!

ENJOY!!!!

You did great man!!! You will not be sorry booking Playa. I like it so much more than the Cancun area (which is close if you want to go one night!) RIU hotels are VERY high class and standards. We stayed at the one in Ocho Rios Jamaica and were very impressed!!! Enjoy and have plenty of Margaritas!!!!

Have a great time in Playa!
Do check out playainfo.com I used to spend a lot of time "there". They are a lot of fun, and while many prefer the in-town hotels, they do have a forum section for resorts, too.

Just walk up and down the beach, and stop at all the various beach bars :D

If you do go to Cozumel, check out the Dollar Bar on the east side of the island.

after doing alot of research, it seems playa is nothing like cancun

i had fun in cancun but playa seems more like my kinda place

i'm not big on the dance bars, i like the beach bars where you can just sit and drink all night

Head south to the beaches of Tulum for peace and quiet and great beach bars. I think it's around a 40 mile straight shot and is truly the laid back Margaritaville I've always had in my mind.
Playa is great but seemed too much like american beach towns to me, complete with Walmart, Mickey Ds and what not.
As for Cancun, people are better off going to Miami and saving money. Playa will be Cancun in a few years.
Akumal was good too. Get out and explore and whatever you do, have PHun!!! [smilie=superkewl.gif]

Or someone to pace him.

My boss sent me to Mexico in '98. I toured 20 hotels in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum in 3 days.
The group was offered a drink at each hotel, I was the only one to accept at all 20 hotels. 8)

A man has to have a goal.

I count 102 names on the list (including closed bars). 102 / 6= 17 per day. He could do it if he's motivated.
