Looking over the last couple of pages of postings we didn't see anyone mention one of our favorite KW stops...Five Brothers Grocery and Sandwich Shop. We love to stop there in the morning and stand in line for a go-cup of thick as mud cuban coffee mixed with hot milk and plenty of sugar. A real treat.
OK so what is "off season"??? and if you had a choice would
you go Jan/Feb.. or Jun/July??
also.. given that the $$ would be close or maybe even out..
Fly in to EYW and rent a car for the drive through the keys..
or fly into MIA or FLL and drive down..
(taking into account that MIA or FLL would cost two days)
I would have to go a day early and leave a day early (or EARLY that day)
All the hotels/condo's/resorts will list specifically when their off season prices are. Usually things get pricier around Nov and cheaper mid-April. We went down this yr the last week in March and the weather was great. During the summer KW can be very hot and humid so if possible go for late winter/early spring.
We flew into MIA since it was a little cheaper. Our flights were in the afternoon so plenty of time to drive to destination. Its a fairly easy drive from MIA to Key West. Could be done in around 3 hrs but there are plenty of places to stop along the way. We spent most of our time between Marathon and KW.
I'd stick with early in the year, unless you like humidity..
Wayne, Tom and I went down after Frisco (in between Tampa).... we flew into FLL... now, granted his daughter lived there and we visited her first, but I wouldn't have missed that drive down for anything!!
We were there in early March and there were a few chilly/breezy days.
Keep in mind I live in north Florida though and anything below 70 is freezing to me.
My wife and I did note that our next trip there will probably be no earlier than April just to ensure some heat. I do not mind being hot, especially if there's a breeze.
We're trying to make a long weekend down there before school starts back.

I have to fly back to Boise.. so it's either out at like 8-10 AM
or fly out in the afternoon and don't get home until around midnight..
I should have mentioned that I wasn't thinking of Hotel rates..
but of how many tourists I would encounter..

yep.. I was making the drive either way..
my thought is to fly in to EWY and rent a car
during the stay and drive UP then Down the Keys.. one day then drop the car off
as I do not need a ride the rest of the stay
otherwise... I get in to either FLL or MIA anywhere between
5:00PM to 9:00 PM which means an overnight stay.. before the drive down
then on the flight out (from FLL or MIA) I either get up EARLY
or go north a night early.. or stay on the Rock. fly out in the afternoon . and pizz away a vacation day because I get home at midnight..
not real wild about Humidity

Sounds like you have a good plan. Now all you have to do is book the flight. Flight to EWY...now just what month. If you'd prefer less people, not much humidity then maybe April/May. Have a great trip.

I have been tasked with the planning of a getaway for a handful of MILF’s and a few singlets. One of our dear friends will be deployed this Saturday and upon her return (early April 2010) we wanted to do a girls week in the Key’s. BUT here is the kicker… we would like to charter a small vessel for that week. One that preferably has a chef (we do not want to cook either) and one that knows the best bars, massage therapists, and docks on the islands.
We are not your normal ladies, not to worry…… no petty crap, just living the good life for a few day’s enjoying each other’s company and the fact that we are strong women, capable of climbing damn near anything that gets in our way.
If anyone can assist me or point me in the right direction, we would all thank you forever!!!
If you like a mixed fun crowd-
