Worth the chance?

Post by Cobi0613 »

It was only a matter of time...I for one never leave my car running. It's admittedly made for some very chilly drives though.
A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling...

Just tryin' to live Floridays...

I don't understand the question of "Worth the chance?" Is it worth the chance of losing a vehicle to leave it running or worth the chance of jail to steal an extremely easy drive-away? Either way I say no, or at least be a little smarter. I mean really, a BMW in South End? Come on!
If I start my vehicle in the morning I lock the doors. Then I use my second set of keys to unlock the door when I am ready to jump in. Common sense is not all that common any more.

When I was copping....we had AT LEAST one a week like that....and that's here Riverdale, Utah.....some of them, people would run in to the 7-11 for coffee and leave their cars running.....local tweaker would seize the opportunity....car would be found two weeks later stripped....

Same here. And I only start it on days when there's ice all over it and I'm not going anywhere until it's warm and scraped.

yup...no sympathy here. growing up in the northwest (seattle) i never saw anybody do this because its rarely that cold, moving to ohio then montana was a shock. walking to class every morning here in the mountains i see at least one car a week doing this. seems incredibly dim :o
If I had it all to do over again, I'd just get myself drunk and I'd jump right back in...

It's against the law to do that here. No sympathy from me. Sorry, it's just inviting someone to take the car. :-?

I live in Detroit- everyone I know knows someone who's had a vehicle stolen. My MIL had the same car stolen twice. It doesn't matter how cold it is, you do not leave the keys in the vehicle if it's unlocked.

I live in NE Ohio and the winters can be freakin' brutal. I won't even leave my car running in my garage with the door open to warm it up and I live in a neighborhood full of cops, lawyers and judges!!! It's just too easy and you have no recourse if you tell your insurance co that you left the keys in it. Sorry, I'll wear a big ugly coat and gloves and hope that my "frugal" husband will let me move to the Carolinas someday. :P

I should have also stated that the only reason I will do this is if there is ice on the windshield. I will not leave it running simply to warm the interior.

I live in the Carolinas and it gets cold here too. Not NE Ohio cold, but cold enough to ice up.

They passed a law here that it is illegal to leave your vehicle idling. The only exception is if you are waiting for the windows to defrost.
That doesn't stop nearly every other vehicle from having a remote car starter though
