I heard on another board that she was an assistant in a fertility clinic, not a psychiatric nurse, but I don't know where the person got that information.

Great comment from CNN though- "The uterus is not a clown car."

That has been tossed around here as well, but all of it is basically hearsay from neighbors. I imagine we'll have a tough time actually hearing the truth.

And that is a great quote.

And neighbors have reported that at least some of her other 6 kids were conceived via fertility treatments. I've also heard that she had the procedure out of the country. Common practice here is implanting 2 eggs, not 8. I'd like to give this woman a good kick in the head. There's no question this was done for monetary gain, either from companies giving her free stuff, a new house, car, facelift, teeth, college educations for all her kids etc, or some reality TV series. NO company or organization should be subsidizing this family and I will boycott any company that does. I'm sick of people getting rewarded for having litters, while most of the good folks in this world make it as best they can with what they have.

She went to Kaiser when she was 12 weeks along. Why they took her is beyond me, when so many others can't get insurance.
:
From what I remember from my years of fertility treatments, I think they actually implant more than 2 eggs; however, there is a very serious discussion on selective abortion and your willingness to do it if necessary. I believe the reason they do implant more is that even if they do not develop, they add nutrients (or in some way) actually assist the ones that do develope.

My question would be how many were actually implanted? Normally not all that are implanted develope so perhaps more than 8 were implanted.........

Some people are just so stupid....

All the fertility experts I have heard interviewed said the standard NOW is no more than two, simply to avoid the mega multiple birth issues and the ethical/health concerns that result. I guess that is why they think the procedure was done in another country. And if she indeed used in vitro to conceive any of her other children it would lead one to believe that the odds were in her favor for all eggs to develop.

I have not been involved in the world of fertility for quite some time, so I am sure many things have changed. The advances in medical science over the last 10 - 15 years has been amazing. It is sad that things like this overshadow all the good results fertility treatments can offer.

Ok here what I have derived from news articles that I have read so far

She did work in a fertility clinic and her twins were conceived by invitro. She had some frozen embryos that she did not want to destroy so she had them implanted - He mother claims they implanted fewer then the eight but they multiplied. According to some Dr.s this is possible. Dr's say that implanting eight embryo is "well beyond the guide lines" She was advised to selective remove some of the embyos and she said no. She claims that she was "paid" to do this...

She is out of work.

He family filed for bankruptcy last year. She and her children (along with her parents) are all living in a two bedroom house together

She is already seeking 2 million from Oprah to do and interview and want her own tv show as a childcare expert

and last but not least - she wants to breast feed all the children

And there will be nothing left of Mom......talk about suking you dry.......she's gonna have to supplement. Maybe twins or triplets but not 8. My Momma cat could barely keep up with 6.

The doctor who impregnated her should be brought up on ethics charges. It's clear this woman has some mental health issues..... :-? :-?

It's funny, I would have had to agree I thought the family was doing this for the notoriety, but every time they interview her Dad out here, (and it's always when he's just trying to pick up the kids or go to the store) he's just p*** and wants the media to go away. He is clueless at what an amazing thing this is. He thinks the attention should and will go away. Boy is he in for a big awakening.

The news this morning reported she is not married. Who do you think is paying for all her kids?

are these clinic's unregulated? kindalike the platic surgery clinics...for the most part, plastic surgery in some forms is completely unregulated.

CNF, we'll be paying for all of her children for a long, long time.

That's just it. Life isn't fair.

This woman has a professional license in some field I can't recall at this moment.
apparently she will require no public assistance...

Thank you, Cate....that's been my thought from the get go. :(

Suz, you're right....it is an unregulated industry. As long as you have the cash (where did she get the money for all those treatments?) there is someone who carry out the procedure according to your demands, ethics be damned. :-? 14 kids conceived via in vitro? Some heads should seriously roll...

It's interesting how her mother and father are polar opposites in this situation. Dad appears to be in denial. Mom has had enough. They are obviously overwhelmed. One of the other 6 children is autistic. I can't imagine what will happen with him/her when 8 more babies arrive in the house. Someone should seriously be taking a look at this woman's mental state, this goes beyond "obsessed with having babies".

Actually I'm not sure she does, Brad. She's gone from being a nurse to being a tech in most stories. Supposedly she does have a degree in child development, and is pursuing her masters in counseling...which really takes it over the top. :-? I truly can't imagine it...

I'm sure CPS is watching her very closely now.....

You'd think so, but I wouldn't bet on it with our current budget situation. :-?
