A choice of many...need help

Post by bxe113 »

Hey PHs...I need some help...I am going to the PGH show in June with a bunch of friends and then my buddy and I are hittin the road to see Jimmy at another venue also. I am limited to a certain radius so I need to know what people think of some venues. Here are my choices:

1. Cincy
2. Chicago - Bridgeview??
3. Camden
4. Jones Beach
5. Alpine Valley - maybe??
6. Outside possibility of Bristow, VA also but unlikely

Be brutally honest...I'm not one who enjoys the really hard to get to places if I haven't been there before. I also want to know about the tailagte scene...

Thanks for your help!

Well, ok...let me qualify my statement before....I know where Cincy is and where Wisconsin is. I even know where Camden is...I was there for James Taylor a few years back...I meant to say that if they are in some place completely devoid of human habitation then I'm most likely not excited about that.

it's a very subjective question. I've been to 4 of the 6, and would recommend any of them. To narrow it down to one is tough. I don't know if I could choose just one because part of my decision making process is the friends that I've made and who would I get a chance to see, plus the memories I have of each location. Gun to my head? Jones Beach. But why that one and not the others? I couldn't tell you.

Rule out Chicago immediately. It's a stadium...

Cincy or Jones Beach. Never been to Cincy but the tailgate has an incredible reputation. Jones Beach is AT the beach and the tailgate is great. No lawn at JB if that's important to you, but small place (20,000?) and great venue.

Alpine is huge; unless you have great seats you're too far away, but hte energy and parking lot are awesome.

Camden, not bad but I'd take Jones Beach before Camden.

Never been to Nissan so can't comment.

you honestly think Jimmy is going to waste one of his limited number of shows on a venue in the middle of nowhere? Maybe when he was playing the Steak and Ale on Tuesday in Duluth (MN, not GA), and Jan Stenerud's Smoorgaasbord & Dancehall on Wednesday, but all of those places you mentioned are on Interstate.. no 2 lane roads until you get off said 4 lane limited-access highway to get the last mile to the venue..

Jones Beach, because I can be there in 20 minutes

Haven't been to Nissan in 6 years, it's usually too hot

Never been to Camden, never will go to Camden because it's Camden

Haven't been to Bridgeview

Only been to Cinci and Alpine once each. Cinci was pretty good but it was hot as hell the year I was there. Alpine is just too freakin' big.

It's all relative..... to a lot of people, Alpine Valley is in the middle of nowhere.... Heck, to some city dwellers, even Mansfield is in the sticks.....

having seen (and lived in) areas where the "completely devoid of human habitation" could come close to applying, the statement comes across as "hey, I need to break out a map" rather than "eeeewwwww, it's 5.8 seconds too far to the nearest Blockbuster"

Ok, ok...geez...I didn't mean to start a turf war...AND I am no stranger to maps...I just have a thing about knowing where the hell I'm going if I'm driving. It makes me nuts when I get lost and have a purpose...I can get lost without a purpose anytime and enjoy that.

I appreciate the inupt, however...I'm glad I can count on PHs to lend a wing.

Please feel free to add me to any PGH lists that may be circulating as well. My buddy and I enjoy meeting new people.

Now if you REALLY wanna start a turf war, just start a thread that asks, "What's the BEST Buffett venue?"

I've been to Camden and Bristow. Bristow was nice, but it was hot. Camden is right
before the Pittsburgh show but I'm pretty much thinking of doing the Camden-Pittsburgh
week myself. What you have to remember is to get from Pittsburgh to Camden you
pretty much have to use the turnpike and our illustrious governor has raised the fare
by 50%. Also, when you get off the bridge to NJ, go directly to the venue. Don't stop
or screw around in the "war zone". :pirate:

I used to work at a comedy club in Hartford. Sometimes we'd get comics you'd see two, maybe three times and then never see them again. Maybe some dropped out of the business, most probably started doing better and didn't have to play a club as small as ours. But most of the comics we got were as regular as clockwork, 4 to 6 times a year. I went to a show there not too long ago and I remember two of the three comics from when I had worked there almost ten years ago. These comics never got any farther in their career, and you know why?

CAUSE THEY KEPT MAKING THE SAME OLD DUMB JOKES YEAR AFTER YEAR AND COULDN'T COME UP WITH ANY NEW MATERIAL!!!!!
