In 99 I saw my first Buffett show and in the same week I went to a RunDMC show.
What a great week!
I went to my first "rock" show ever in October (Hinder, Puddle of Mudd, Shinedown, etc) and thought in the back of my mind that I'd feel like an old fart and my ears would hurt but I had a blast. I like Nickelback's new album.

my first show was Motley Crue. I was ten, i'll be fifteen this year. That show opened my eyes to metal. But my first metal song I ever heard, Enter Sandman-Metallica,the gods of all rock, except the prince of darkness aka Ozzy the ozz man Osbourne

Is Nickelback considered heavy metal?

Nickleback is kinda tame in my opinion, but trust me, nobody can rock the metal one minute and the hula skirt the next like I can.

This is not so odd. I am a fan of hard rock but love Jimmy too. I just went to Metallica a few weeks ago. Probably most of the concerts I see are considered heavy metal/rock/hard rock
I have seen Metallica, Korn, Disturbed, Linkin Park several times a piece among many others
But almost as much as I listen to them I always love putting in some live Buffett. I have seen Buffett over 10 times and counting...
Now lets hope Live Nation doesn't screw it up for the Mansfield sale this weekend!
Oh...and I would not call Nickleback "heavy metal" either...they play them on Top 40 stations = not heavy metal!

Enjoying a wide variety of music is good for the soul.

I think you will enjoy both shows, I think the biggest thing is going to be the disappointment you will feel parking your car and walking into the Nickelback show thinking about the fun you had in the parking lot just days before at Jimmy's show. Beyond that you'll be fine.
