How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
Any ideas? I live in Chicago and I'm not buying any tickets for Bridgeview, will wait until the event gets closer and get them on Craigs List, last year they were selling for under face value days before the concert. I think a lot of people are gonna give thoughts to shelling out hundreds of dollars for tickets when some dates are still six months away.

Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
I think that the higher priced tickets may be a harder sell this year because of the economy. If people want to go to a Buffett show, they would probably would try to get the cheap seats first.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I think it's why lawn is selling out and there are still pavillion seats left at almost every venue.
In past years the whole thing was sold out in the first 15 minutes

And the scalpers may not have a profitable year. People will not be willing to pay outrageous prices.

I hate to see the phriends I haven't met yet not be able to afford tickets but it would be nice for the scalpers to be stuck with tickets that they have to sell below face!Left Field ParrotHead wrote:And the scalpers may not have a profitable year. Scalpers will not make as much because people don't want to pay that kind of money to get tix to a show they can get not as good seats for a better price.MikeJW wrote:Any ideas? Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
tho, it was mentioned that some of the websites for the "legitimate resellers.." are just speculating, so they may or may not have the tickets they are advertising. if they don't, they are not taking the bath that is necessary to get the market back to face and fees

I can say that for myself.....no matter how crappy things are financially I will do whatever it takes to get to the show. I can usually only pull off one a year and even that can be a trick at times. But it is my ONE day a year that I take for myself and let go of all the responsible parts of my life. It is a much needed "magic kind of medicine....no doctor can prescribe".

Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
We're not going this year, but I can't honestly say its because of the economy. I decided two years ago that I wasn't going to buy any more tickets for a while because it was just getting too expensive, almost $600 for tickets for my family of four. My wife and I ended going again last year only because he came to St. Louis and I couldn't pass up seeing him 15 miles from home. Since he's not coming back here this year, I don't have to make that decision.
Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
I would think people will still go to concerts, but for those who go to several, and travel to other cities, they may cut back on the number of concerts they attend.

That's exactly my scenario.ejr wrote:I would think people will still go to concerts, but for those who go to several, and travel to other cities, they may cut back on the number of concerts they attend.
If Jimmy didn't schedule SD into the tour, I would not have attended, (and I missed out on Vegas last year).
I'm undecided whether I'll be doing the May Irvine/Vegas thing, but I imagine that as the date gets closer... I'll cave!

Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
Im sure the shows will sell out with the usual vigor,it is sad that the economy is draining phun out of so many lives. The prices are steep,Mrs.Inked and I decided that we work so much so many long hours and spend so much time away from each other that we cant afford to not go o this concert, mentally that is,we have so much phun with our parrothead familly, and so look forward to this concert that it is worth the saving up for.We dont do a lot of other concerts and definately wont this year but as for Jimmys,we go,we party, and we have big phun!!!! Lifes to uncertain have phun when you can!!! Any one on the fence as to wheather or not to go this season...If it makes you smile and you can somehow pull it off do it!! Hope to see you all out there shaking your co-co-nuts and slurping jello shots, and and having a good time....for all those hard working parrotheads ,you earned it!

If Great Woods is any indication, scalper and Ebay prices are down. I've been watching Craigslist and Ebay, and prices for lawn seats are going for about $75-85 for the Saturday show. I couldn't find one last year for less than $135.
Same thing is going on for Pavilion seats.

Yeah, when I called for rooms at the Comfort Inn near Great Woods, the woman asked what was going on, as she had had a few calls already for those dates....I lied and said I was going to a wedding.ragtopW wrote:I gotta tell ya.. IMHO the real thieves are the Hotels...

Those same rooms are now going for $30 to $50 more than when we booked.....glad we got wind of this before they did.

Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
Clearly, the price for pavilion seats needs to come down. Its not just $136...but then you add on close to $20 in extra charges and you are looking at a $150 ticket.

Re: How will the economy effect Buffett Tickets?
I just checked, and there are 100-level seats available for Concord, an hour and something after ticket sales began. Good seats, too, based on the map. It's about $155 after you tack on the various fees, so I'm holding off for now. I'm good with "lawn." I guess a lot of other people are too.
It *is* interesting that we're not selling out of the good seats early.

Pittsburgh used to sell out in 15 minutes. Right now, 5 hours after tickets were released, you can still get pavilion seats that are under cover...decent seats.
