Bestseller92's idea.
bestseller92 wrote: There are perhaps two living artists who can legitimately claim that they're the best ever at their chosen craft -- Earl Scruggs at playing the banjo, and Riley "Blues Boy" King at playing the blues.
Any record collection without a good bit of B.B. in it is incomplete, in my opinion.
What does a complete record collection look like and why? Folk, classical, rock, pop, jazz, disco, rap, metal...? Who belongs?
Please remember the why part of the answer.

OK, let me give this a try.
Bob Dylan.
Dylan is an icon. He’s considered one of the most important singer-songwriters and poets of the 20th century.

Well....I really have to say Jimmy even if it is obvious. He has a song for every one of my moods and feelings and can put me in a better place everytime I listen no matter how crappy things are. I find wisdom and peace in his lyrics and his voice is like talking with an old friend very dear to my heart.

Hey! Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. They really go great together. I still barely remember the first time I had several.

A good record collection without jail time is incomplete because the criminal just isn't trying hard enough. And who likes a lazy crook?

Anything released by anyone who's ever been on American Idol so you can demonstrate what really bad, corporate, produced-by-committee music sounds like.
