Two communications satellites have collided with each other almost five-hundred miles above the Earth.
NASA says a US satellite smashed into a defunct Russian satellite at high speed over Siberia earlier this week, producing a massive cloud of debris.
The incident is the first known collision of its kind, despite the fact that around 18,000 man-made objects are in orbit around the Earth.
NASA is tracking the hundreds of pieces of wreckage from the crash amid hopes that they will burn up harmlessly in the Earth's atmosphere.

"Have you been in an accident? Your insurance company is not looking out for your interests. Here at the law firm of Skweezum, Soohem, and Macom-Paye, we handle all accident cases, big and small. If we don't win, you don't pay. So remember, if you have a phone, you have a lawyer!"
I heard that the Russian satellite was talking on a cell phone at the time of the accident.

I thought this was a successful test of the anti satellite system.

Our local news in FL has been running a video taken around Austin Texas of a "fireball streaking through the sky" over the weekend. Officials don't know what it was..wasn't a plane tho..."speculation" is if it could be debris from these satellites..
