Come Monday Rare Verse?
I was pulling into my driveway and in a rush to get inside. On RM was Come Monday (Rare Verse). The only difference I heard through the first to verses was in the first verse Hiking Boots was changed for Hush Puppies. I didn't hear the rest of the song. I searched here and Google and can't turn up the "rare verse". I am curious, anyone know this verse?

Whew that is good!!! OK so Hiking Boots is there, is that the only change? Hard to believe they would call it a lost verse with only one word change.....Hmmmmmmmmmmmmommar wrote:I've heard hiking boots before...........can't precisely recall whether it was on RM or on a CDbut you are not losing your mind

On Radio Margaritaville recently the announcer stated that the version of the song was from a concert in London. They could not use "hush puppies" because it was a brand name, so changed it to "hiking boots".

Naaaaah. "Cheeseburger In Paradise" is now a brand name. So he can't sing that in concert in London any more? Sorry. Maybe there's some ridiculous law about playing a song that mentions a brand name on BBC radio , but I can't believe a performer can't use a brand name in a song lyric being sung live in concert. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find "brand names" in lyrics of the Beatles, Elton John and the Who either (but I'm too lazy right now to think of any).RainTree wrote:On Radio Margaritaville recently the announcer stated that the version of the song was from a concert in London. Re: Come Monday Rare Verse?
I don't remember hearing the part about it being a live concert or not or where it was from for that matter.
The link provided above states it was a law in Great Britian that on BBC radio which was a government station, name brands are not allowed in songs.

Well damb if you aren't correct. So instead of "separation of church and state" this law separates "commerce and state", sort of. I guess I can see some sort of arcane logic in that but it seems a bit overboard to me.mommar wrote:I don't remember hearing the part about it being a live concert or not or where it was from for that matter.

Re: Come Monday Rare Verse?
I have heard this as well. I think it’s the rare version, not the rare verse. It sounds like a studio album, not a live show. But I have no idea where it’s from and since I don’t actually own any Jimmy Buffett albums I could not even guess.
Re: Come Monday Rare Verse?
You can find this version on the original ABC 45 of Come Monday. Original CILCIA 45 also has an alternate lyric change albeit for a different content issue - "good times and riches and 'son of a bitches" is changed to "bruises and stitches" to ensure airplay.

Re: Come Monday Rare Verse?
I have this version of Come Monday. It's the same other than the "Hikin' Shoes" line. I believe it was noted to be a BBC version and I assumed it was because they may not sell Hush Puppies over there, thus they may not know what it means.
This version is available on the FTP site in the "Odds and Ends Volume 1 - (1969-1978)" folder, as well as in the "Treasure Box."
You can get it here:

The FTP site also has the version of Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes where he says "Good times and riches, some bruises and stitches."

Take it from me, "the powers that be" at the BBC are in foir a rude awakening in the near future. We have to pay the Beeb for a license to listen to and watch TV. I think this is about £175 about $249 per year!! Their days are numbered!! We even have guys who spy on us to ensure we are not watching or listening without a license!

BPH, clarify this for me. Would British people circa 1970's know what Hush Puppies (not a food) are?britparrothead wrote:Take it from me, "the powers that be" at the BBC are in foir a rude awakening in the near future. Well, that answers that. Now onto the next question: What's a naff?britparrothead wrote:Hush Puppies were and still are, as far as I am aware a really naff suede shoe!FunkHouse9 wrote:BPH, clarify this for me.
