Many 15 year olds don't think before they act. She was probably being verbally abusive also. But the force they used can only be described as "excessive" on a girl that size.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
It does appear that at least one of the officers did use excessive force on the young woman. That would make his actions crimminal. The other officer does not appear to be doing much or trying to stop/prevent the other officer from such action/conduct.
There are three sides to every story. The opposing side's views, then the side, that everyone else sees with hindsight.
We don't know the full story, only a few seconds. Judging from what little we do see, does not appear to justify the officer's apparent use of excessive force.

roughed up a little? That was a helluva lot more than "roughed up"ragtopW wrote:wow.. I guess I am in the minority..

I'm not saying the girl is innocent, but she definitely did NOT deserve to get the sh*t beat out of her by a man twice her size....not just a man, but a COP.
She needs to be brought up on the laws that she broke but that cop needs to be brought down a peg or two and face the punishment for the crime that he committed.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
Wayne, I love you dude but I gotta vehemently disagree. She didn't steal a car, she took her mother's car without permission. There is a difference between that and grand theft auto. Second, this is a 15 year old girl who might be 115 soaking wet who got pummeled by two cops one of whom punches her in the head. I am sure she probably was running her mouth, but she is a teenager who was never a threat to these two cops. They let their anger get the best of them and now they will pay for it.ragtopW wrote:wow.. I guess I am in the minority..

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
Are you out of your mind!!!! not only is that a 15 year old child but its a woman did you see the way they were hitting her for kicking a shoe at them the only thing that I can come up with is you must have a badge of your own, and let me tell you if a cop ever did that to my child I would have him cuft and stuffed fast enough to make his head spin, but the cops would probably treat him better then they treated this young girl....maybe he would get some ice cream from his brothers...yeah I sure hope you are in the minorityyou clown people like you make me sick.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
Deputy Paul Schene clearly belongs in a different line of work, but I can't imagine what legitimate line of work that might be, where a man standing 6'2" and weighing in at 195 lbs gets to attack young girls when they get 'uppity'. Some kind of pimp or sex trade enforcer comes to mind, but then again, that isn't a legitimate line of work.
He definitely doesn't belong in a uniform of any kind, not even in a war zone where, although his apparent 'born to kill' instinct could be unleashed to good effect, assaulting young girls is still considered a crime (if you can get the witnesses to testify, that is).
Things on the internet live forever, almost. I can see that future day when his own teenage daughter (if he ever has one) googles her dad's name, views this clip and comes to the startling conclusion that her father is a violent brute (if she hasn't already found that out). As a father, I can almost pity him when that day arrives.
The maximum sentence he can get in this case is one year in jail. I think he deserves the maximum because he wasn't some drunk caught up in a bar brawl, but a law enforcement officer in a position of power and trust. Give him his one year in jail and a criminal record and make sure he never gets to work in law enforcement again.
But there is another dimension to this story that should be explored . . .
It's possible that this episode may have its roots in another recent event in Deputy Schene's career, and although it doesn't excuse his behavior, I think it may go a long way towards explaining it.
He fatally shot a mentally ill man during a traffic stop in 2006. The man had attempted to choke Deputy Schene with his own microphone cord and had then run back to his vehicle when the Deputy shot him. An inquest into that shooting found that Deputy Schene's actions were justified. While on administrative leave for that shooting, Deputy Schene was stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Perhaps Deputy Schene hasn't been able to cope with the fact that he had to take a life in the performance of his duties. These past events had to have had an impact on his emotional stability. Maybe the local police department hasn't made available the proper resources to help Deputy Schene deal with this issue.
Another factor to consider is the fact that the precinct he works at, located in a high crime area, has come under scrutiny for a number of assaults by his fellow police officers on detainees. This could have contributed to a heightened sense of 'Us' vs 'Them' on the part of Deputy Schene and his coworkers.
Policing - a difficult job to do well.
Lots to think about.
Obviously I am enjoying my current stretch of days off and have too much time on my hands.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
As a resident of King county and the city where this sheriff deputy lives I am appalled by his behavior. He needs to loose his badge as well as his ability to ever work in law enforcement. We've got enough cops in our city that have ignorant bad attitudes who half a$$ do their jobs and we don't need him becoming a city police officer or even security at the race track for that matter as they've got cop failures there. The other officer who also failed to report the incident needs to face punishment for his failure to report - not loose his job but definitely get in trouble.
It's way past time for the "code of silence" to be broken when you have cops doing bad things such as this. Yes they risk their lives on a daily basis but there is no excuse for a cop beating the crap out of someone in custody over such an insignificant act. The lock up door could have easily been shut and her left in lockup with just one shoe and her foot getting cold. It's not as if she pulled a shank on them it was a freaking tennis shoe.
King county is damn lucky that the girl didn't suffer brain injuries from having her head slammed into a haddock block wall or the cement floor not to mention the blows inflicted by the officer. This would have never come to light if the officer investigating the auto theft had not reported it to her superiors when she saw the tape - she deserves a commendation. The girl didn't even file a report because who would have believed her? The cops were STUPID - they know there's cameras in the lockups.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
This is the part that disturbs me... She basically took her mom's car without permission, so the mom decided to teach her a lesson and calls the cops on her, the girl was not really charged with a crime, just put into "lockup".
Now I don't know exactly what the girl said to the cop but this particular cop has a few "anger management issues" if he's going to wail off and beat senseless a 15 year old girl for mouthing off and kicking a shoe at him.
OTOH why did the mom get the cops involved in the first place, it's HER responsibility to discipline her child (tough love doesn't work anymore)...

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
Now I know a lot of folks who would defend the cop. ‘Well what did she do to deserve the beating?” “Well she kicked her shoe at the officer” And so on.
I wonder if the cop is willing to do that on film, what is he willing to do in private.

Re: Police Officer assault 15 year old girl
OK first a statement then some background.. Then my opinion
Opinions are formed by experience ..
My experiences are not yours (and for that I am glad)
I went to a Jr. High that had somewhere over seventy percent
Of the student body that spent ninety days in Juvenile hall
In our two years together
(not counting the 30 or so that went down for the length of our
Seventh grade year.. Or the 20 or so that did the same for our eight
Grade year) so I went to a “rough” school..
My Freshman year in high School.. We went to the “wrong school”
I carried a knife.. Sharp and fast..
(we split schools the next year with my group getting the new school)
Somewhere around my 10th grade year the crew was either..
In Jail, In the Hall, out of school, Dead, had settled down , were in continuation school
Or still causing trouble at High school so it settled down some..
I can tell you from first hand. An ass kicking set more of those straight than anything..
Those kids started with taking moms car.. And went on to bigger and “Better” crimes
The LEOS on the board will tell you that most of the time a “joy rider”
Will run from the law.. Not a good thing. Bad things happen in a police chase.
And I am here to tell you.. If they will “kick shoes” at a Cop.. They will
Bully, beat and terrorize the rest of the world.. Maybe not the same day but it will
(in a lot of cases) lead to more and more..
So IF her pain caused by the cop can put a stop to her heading down a long dark road..
Then I think it is a positive thing.. If she were to see that there is a consequence
For her actions she MAY get straight if it’s not too late.
I wonder how many of you realize that if that Little girl does any time (not this time
But in the event of another crime) that if she “kicks her shoes” at another inmate
The inmate will not go and get someone more her size to settle the matter..
They will do so themselves..
Also in one last.. Leads to tale.. “kicking shoes will lead to spitting, spitting
WILL lead to “gassing” (Urine or Feces throwing.. Blood… vomit..) where do you allow the
Officer to “teach them a lesson”??
my opinion?? I wasn’t there.. I did not hear what was said.. If you want to say that the cop went too far..
Maybe you could walk a mile in his shoes..
BTW.. I am not nor have ever been a LEO.. I did have a beating or two laid on me by Cops..
Once He got the idea that I egged his car.. Maybe I should have ditched the egg carton I was packing
And the second time?? Maybe if I had not stolen the Meter maid cart.. And written packing tickets
To every car in a 12 block area (yep even the ones in the Driveway)
I quit messing with the cops.. They don’t play..
