Do you have a link to the press conference/apology? I briefly looked at both of the news sites linked and didn't spot it.

If you think about the number of times cops let people go with a warning for any number of moving violations, it boggles the imagination as to why this idiot had to bust chops on a guy who was clearly heading into a hospital period. Most other cops probably would have shut there lights off and let it go as soon as they saw a car with its hazards on turn into a hospital. Maybe they would follow them in to see if they needed some help but that should have been about it. This was way overblown by I suspect a hardheaded Dallas cop who was probably showing off how tough he was to the Plano cop. Hence the reason he didn't let it go.

Just wondering since at this point in time the Moats were in Plano Police department juristriction could the Plano cop have taken control of the situation if he wanted?

The officer changed his story and issued a statement apologizing this afternoon.
There's an interview with Ryan Moats here;

Oh, charming....
Updated: Officer Robert Powell and his wife have updated their MySpace pages in response to the intense criticism from this story.
Robert Powell - "All I can do is HOLD MY HEAD UP HIGH n wait for this to blow over. Thanks to everyone that standing behind me n helping me get through this.Love U Honey!!!!"
Wife Jody Powell - "I f***ing hate the media....they love to f***ing screw peoples lives up. Honey I Love U n things will get better. F*** anyone that believes the media"
Hold your head up high?? You should be hanging your head in shame....
Never mind the media you stupid woman, it's the video of your husband's actions that's so damning.
IMHO his apology is too little, too late, and totally self-serving, no doubt hoping to salvage his job....

I hope someone points out Officer Powell's MySpace to Chief Kunkle. Not exactly the humble statement of someone sorry for a mistake.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's already had it pointed out. I saw mention of it in the Dallas Morning News comments section. From Chief Kunkle's remarks they've already been watching the sites and blogs.

Apparently they've been getting flooded with calls, emails, and even faxes about this. One report said over 100 calls an hour.

If you watch Chief Kunkel's news conference on the link I provided earlier I think the Chief says they're the same.
Here's the aplogy from Dallas Morning News blog site. I find the comments most interesting

Wow.... someone got a screen shot of Powell's Xanga site before it was deleted:
http://mountainsageblog.com/2009/03/26/ ... ive-died/#
Quote from the site, a post made back in 2006:
Monday, August 28, 2006
The count downs begin:
18 days of work then the real work starts and I can shoot people
33 days then own apartment, with cable and high speed internet
This man does NOT need to be carrying a badge and a gun....
