Traveling to Mexico

Post by spartan1979 »

Anybody been to Mexico lately (more specifically Cabo)?

We were thinking of going in June to Cabo (where we foolishly bought a time share) but I keep hearing it's not a good idea to go to Mexico right now.

Canadians have no official warning, but are cautioned about northern areas such as Nogales, Juarez and Tijuana for the same reasons stated in your government's advisory . . .

Andersen Cooper did a whole program the other night about what is going on in Mexico, especially Juarez. If you go I would be careful and heed any warnings.

Cabo is fine. It is touristy. Stay in the populated areas and you are fine. I was there 1 year ago and am going back 1 year from now. As you know, Cabo is not near those areas mention above. It is at the bottom of the peninsula.

E and I are heading to Cozumel for a week, on May 2nd. He's more of a seasoned traveler than I am, and I have no worries about going. As others have said, it's the border towns that are having the most problems.

I'm taking my wife and two kids to the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, in June. I have no reservations whatsoever about the tourist areas.

Just use common sense, and you shouldn't have issues.

I'd travel to the tourist areas now, less anything in the border area. Use the same common sense in terms of crime that you'd use in any US tourist area. This probably isn't the time, however, to go off the beaten path...

We have a place in San Jose, just outside Cabo and have been twice this year. No issues at all.
You may be closer to San Jose than Cabo so be sure to visit the town. It is much nicer than Cabo. It is worth shopping at the Super Wal Mart as it has the best prices without the bulk of Costco. Except limited alcohol selection.

Cheers.

Yeah, we're in San Jose at the Royal Solaris.
