Anyone else getting "your warranty is set to expire" calls?

For the last few weeks, we've been getting calls (on our home phone, my wife's cell and my cell, too) from out of state numbers (varying area codes, at least one of which was from south Florida) saying that our "warranty is about to expire".

This is silly, because the only major warranty we have is on our '08 Nissan, and it doesn't expire until 2013.

The calls don't say what company they represent, and don't say which warranty is set to expire (I'm sure if it was Nissan they'd identify themselves, even if they had made a boo boo and thought our warranty was expiring).

We get these calls even though our home number is on the government's "do not call" list for telemarketers.

This is certainly a scam of some kind. I just can't figure the angle. Perhaps they're hoping for a call back to an out-of-country number that's gonna charge us beau coup bucks. Not sure, because I haven't gotten that far in listening to the messages yet.

Anyone else been bugged by these calls?

Phone calls no, junk mail, yes. The warranty on both of my ancient vehicles expired a long time ago....

I get crap in the mail and automated phone calls from those jerk-offs all the time.
I bought a 2005 Mercury Sable in November of 2005. It was not quite a year old and had 11,000 miles on it. It was used as a dealer's program car.
When I bought it, it came with a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty.
I've now had the car for three years, and it's long since past the 36,000 mile mark. (Probably sometime in late 2007).
Ever since then, I've been getting "offers" in the mail saying "THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARRANTY RENEWAL NOTICE," "IT'S NOT TO LATE TO RENEW YOUR WARRANTY," etc.
In addition, I'm also getting occasional automated phone calls wanting me to renew the warranty.

It never ends, but, thankfully I have a real good shredder at work, where all that crap ends up with the rest of my junk mail.

My folks were getting those calls too, several times a week if not daily. They had recently moved and gotten a new phone number. I registered that number with Do No Call and I don't think they've gotten any since. The other call they were getting a lot was one about interest rates on credit cards. Direct TV and Dish are both problem callers too, and one of them just got nailed by the gov't for violating the DNC list.

I started getting calls on my cell that were way too many digits to be from the US. I googled the number and got nothing, but googled the first two numbers and got a country code for India. These calls were coming in as many as 6 times a day (in a row) and in the middle of the night. When I got a call at 4am I lost it. I answered the phone and told the person that if they EVER called my number again I would personally hunt them down and kill them. :o They've never called back.

Home numbers do need to be reregistered on Do No Call something like every 4 or 6 years I think? And cells need to be put on there now too, since cell numbers have now been made public to all those companies. :x :-?

Actually, I followed up on one of these once. It was "legit", if you can use the word; they would have sold me (for $XX.00/month, depending on what I was driving at the time) a 'sort-of' warranty whereby they would pay for certain repairs to the vehicle, provided it was taken to certain specific repair shops for the repairs — and that you had been getting regular 'maintenance' service at the same shops.
It's sort of like all those life insurance commercials you used to see on late-night TV that would guarantee you would be able to purchase insurance regardless of age or prior medical conditions; no exams, everyone accepted, first month was only $1.00 (and then they socked it to ya!). But if you did the math and figured out the cost per year per amount of the policy, just about any agent with a brick-and-mortar location could have done better by you.

You'd have to have some serious repairs (like the tranny dropped out, or the motor blew through the hood) before those 'warranties' would be cost effective; and even then I'm betting they'd find some way of denying the claim. My shredder gets a workout on them too.

It was Dish Network on that one. :)

We get them in Canada too.

I pushed the option to speak to someone. They said before they could connect me they needed to know the kind of vehicle I drove. I played along. A 2008 Ford Edge. The guy them comes on. I asked him what vehicle are they calling me about. He says the 2008 Edge. I said how did you know that is what I drove. He says, get this one......................cause you just told me. Why did you lie?
At that point I told him in no uncertain terms to have me removed from the list immediately and I says.........don't worry..that can be arranged. What an a$$!!!

I work in a bank and a few people fell for it and have since had their credit cards billed for different amounts.

That was the case at one time. The US DNC registry has since been changed to be a permanent thing. From the official website:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at

I hadn't gotten warranty calls on my car, likely because my phone number changed at some point. I did however get junk mail, which was easy to ignore... except for one particular piece which arrived the same snowy day that I totalled my car. [smilie=hate.gif]

But all is well now. I love my new car!

The do not call list is for those selling to us. This scam can get away with it because they are providing something to us that we already have.

I just make their day worse by asking for a supervisior.

Did you know that when you are on the phone with your credit card/call center company that if you ask 3 times to speak to a supervisor they have to put you through?

I've started, when received in the mail, if this is the option, sending any and all back to them in their post paid envelope...including....

offers for Medicare part D for my late husband that has been dead for 8 years. That occured in Oklahoma, and I've been living here in Georgia for 5 years. It's followed me here.... AARP must mass produce tons and tons of this junk.

Drop a lead weight or two in there with it.

No, it's not something we already have, since I do not have any warranty with THEM.

And asking for a supervisor can get results from companies you do business with. With Dish Network, it got me a free DVR upgrade.

I've been getting prerecorded calls claiming to offer me interest rate reductions on my credit cards. I hang up on them; I don't have the time to wait for a human being so that I can get a callback number and report it to the FTC. (I'm on the Do Not Call registry, and they should *not* be calling me.)
