Creator of Dungeon and Dragons dies

Yeah, I was a nerd with a twenty sided dice and a cloak of invisibility. Sail on...

Sail on, Dave. All you hit points are restored.

Last year I happened to mention, in a crowded room, that Gary Gygax had died. A number of faces turned at looked toward me with complete comprehension. The others had no idea what I had just said. Phinzup to those who recognize the names and the sadness of these events.

Another of the good ones gone. I'm gonna break out the D&D game I just bought for my PSP in tribute.

Here's hoping they've got 20-sided dice in heaven...

Sail on.

Never played it. I was a geek, but not *that* much of a geek.
As a side note, the company that later commercialized D&D (TSR Inc., which stood for Tactical Study Rules) used to be located in Lake Geneva, WI.

D&D is big in my family. Even my grandson had a d&D theme for his birthday party this year: he turned 6  .

That's both of them. Gary Gygax died last year.

Heard that the family had gathered, and that he was in hospice earlier this week. One guy said the saddest moment at GenCon (the mother of gaming conventions) last year was the request for a moment of silence for Gygax and hearing the main hall go completely quiet; and he added he wasn't looking forward to that this year.

Thoughts and codolences go to with the family. And with them, a part of my childhood as well.

Saill on Mr. Arneson. You touched a lot of lives with those ideas you had.

I had the whole collection of 4, 6, 8, 12, and 20 siders. Still do in an old empty box of check blanks.

mmm hmm.. and the black dice where you'd take a little bottle of "British Crimson" paint, and touch up the white dots for the "coolness" factor. :)
