Does anybody still write letters?
Thought this would be interesting in light of the texting thread.
Do you write letters? Thank you notes? When was the last time you got anything hand written in the mail?

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
Sent Easter cards to my parents and daughters this week.
Always write a long note in the cards I send.
Received Easter card from my mom yesterday,
she always includes a letter in her cards.

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
most of the time, it's email.
but, once in a while I have been known to send cards, with writing inside. and my penmanship needs work.

I never write letters anymore. Only email. But thank you cards are a must from me and always hand written.

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
I do still occasionally write letters, but mostly to those that are close to me.
I send cards often and always write a note. Thank you cards, always try. In fact, just sent one yesterday.

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
I wrote my parents every week from the time I went to college until about 4 years ago. My Mother said it was easier to call than to write, so the letters have stopped.
I miss getting them.....

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
I view letters as something that just isn't necessary anymore. Just a means of communication; never viewed them as something to save or anything to that end - that is what pictures are for.

Thank you notes... yes..
Letters.. only to my father to avoid having to speak to him on the phone. Harsh, yes, but at least I am speaking to him at all which is more than he deserves.

How about approaching 40 (in less than 5 years)?Tequila Revenge wrote:Painting with a very wide brush..... those who still write notes are over 40, right?
I write letters to folks who don't have email. I will write letters or send cards via snail mail (instead of emailing or sending an e-card) to show I care. It takes more effort to go to the store to get a card and go to the post office to get a stamp...
Definitely send thank you notes... either by email or snail mail.

I usually try to drop a card, or just a note to my g'sons when I send them a package (average at least one a week) ...also to my daughter....CindaBee wrote: mostly to my grandkids. All they require is LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND STARS AND BACK--Nana and Papa. lol
although, we speak on the phone often. the boys are 4 and 8, both have their own pc's in their rooms and the 8 yo, very soon, will be sending me email.
usually, just notes though, not actual letters.

I went to Catholic school for 12 years. There are 2 kinds of handwriting that comes from that. Either beautiful cursive or chicken scratch...I have the latter, therefore no handwritten letters from me. Mrs. Al takes care of the thank you notes, letters etc.

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
I hardly ever wrote any letters prior to the innerwebz anyway. With email I write friends and family fairly often. Yes, in the days of letters it seems more thought and time went into it but the same is true of emails, the only big difference is you're typing rather than using a pen or pencil.

Re: Does anybody still write letters?
My wife and I have a couple of shoe boxes of the letters, notes and cards we sent each other before we were married. It's pretty cool to break out the box and go through those from time to time. How does that work with texting and e-mails?
I know I'm sticking on this based on something I read back in the early 90's about how little people put pen to paper.
Even for Thank You notes, e-mails are sort of a minimalist "boiler plate" approach to get something checked off your To Do list. Taking the time to get the card, write the note, address the envelope, get postage and get it in the mail says moe along the lines of really showing respect and honoring the person.
